WTF is this underneath?
Dropped the spare today and could not for the life of me figure out what this electrical connector is plugged into? It's totally exposed unless your spare tire is there? WTF is it?

Where does the wire harness go? Fuel pump? Trailer hitch wiring? Doesn't look like ABS.

I should know this but don't. Only because I haven't looked yet, does 4runner have an electric E break?

Sure feels and looks like a cable to me. And I was just messing around by it with my head underneath that pedal today hardwiring a radar detector in. If it's electric, I'd be shocked. No pun intended.
Never heard motors run back there engaging it or disangaging it either. Plus the click click click click as the cable gets tighter and resistance increases. Yeah it's gotta be cable. I'll eat my hat if I am wrong.
If it were electric, you wouldn't be able to get it to engage at many different levels from almost none to full on. At least I haven't been able to do so on any of the electric parking brake cars I have ever driven. It's either on or off.

It's not ABS, has nothing to do with parking brake. Parking brake is mechanical. The wire loom runs back up past the fuel tank and can't tell where it goes? I was thinking maybe some sort of sensor? Barometric sensor for the MAP or something? Side impact airbag sensor? It's not a trail, so I wouldn't think roll over sensor? One of you guru's gotta know!

start the truck with out the spare tire being installed and see if you get a idiot dash light or the computer shows a code ( check Engine light)
Could be a spare tire ejection warning light. LOL

Could have something to do with your exhaust maybe? I know it’s not on the same side but what else is back there?

Not airbag sensor. This may have changed but, on my 2011, all airbag components are yellow. Yellow tape, yellow split loom, yellow housing, etc.
