Front rotors, not looking good...right?
Just changing the front pads on my 14 limited. The outer diameter of the rotor is pure rust and you can see the pad obviously doesnt contact the whole surface of the rotor. Is this normal?

Those rotors are toast they are passed the resurfacing period in my opinion. Get new oem rotors my preference or research after market and get what you like.

Agree with sparticus. I put cheap AM rotors on all 4 wheels when I had my brake job two years ago by a professional brake mechanic/shop - and they worked great. I think mine came from China.

My old 12 year old OEM rotors looked like in the picture above

brake rotors are cheap. Don't think you have to have OEM Toyota brand for brake rotors IMO.

Rotors are a consumable item, so, yeah, replace them. They nasty.

The wear pattern is normal. But given the massive rust, and the relative cheap price of good replacement rotors, I'd replace them.

Every spring I go and clean my rotors of rust similar to yours. I take a tapered piece of wood that will fit down into the vents ( or a small rat-tail file) and run it back and forth several times in each vent and then take a piece of wood to the surface of the vent around the circumference to remove all the loose stuff(and there is usually plenty!)
Then I take a file and go around the edge where the pad misses the surface and clean it up some too.
Makes me feel better!! Obviously making a pad inspection at same time.
Bleeding each caliper enough to empty the reservoir once is a good idea too.
My brakes love me!
