top of 2018 rocker panel rusting

the top of my rocker panel inside the drivers side door is starting to get some surface rust right where the front of the plastic runner and the paint meet, how do i remove that plastic runner on top of the panel? does it just pop out? i need to remove it so i can stop the rust because im sure there is probably some under it too.

That trim piece does pop off. I had a 2019 with the same issue which I sanded and painted, once dry I applied 3m clear tape where the trim contacts the paint to reduce the rubbing which I think accelerates the corrosion.

I did the same thing the month after I picked my 2021 up. The sharp edge on the bottom of the plastic trim tends to wear through the paint. I sanded the lower edges of the trim piece and added clear plastic clear bra material.

There are four fasteners that you can pop with a plastic trim tool. Mine had a little scuffing and dirt but looked pretty good underneath after 11 years. You need to pull these covers before you can pull the front kick panels for wiring and stuff.
