Park between 2 crew cab dual wheel diesel pickup trucks and the 4runners looks like a midget.

We had a '59 Chevy Bel Air when I was a kid. You could get at least 8 adults in it if they weren't obese.

This 2016 TEP w/KDSS is a big step up from the 1986 Subaru GL wagon I used on the Outer Banks beaches for 14 years. That thing would go anywhere in the sand on 185/70-13 tires. Dual range 5 speed, factory skid plate, 3 position manually adjustable rear shocks and armored exhaust. All factory, including the white spoke wheels. The front sub frame finally rusted apart.

Not sure how far back you mean by "the past" but I would disagree with you based on my experience of being a kid in the '70s. Cars were boats back then.
My parent's family hauler was a '72 Chevrolet Kingswood Estate station wagon that they bought new. With the back seats folded down you could fit a fullsize sheet of plywood in the back and still get the tailgate up. Six adults could ride in it easily, and it still had a third-row rear facing tailgunner seat for at least 2 kids.

"So what?"
Have you figured it out yet? Would you like to buy a vowel? ;)

I have to ask whatcha doing with the 88?
I drove that exact car in high school, cept blue.
Was a well used hand me down from my dad.
Long before it was mine and we used to sneak it out and we'd flip over the air filter cover for little intake boost, do a few brake torque burn outs.

Sorry, I was talking about the '80s and '90s in the US and 40's onward for the rest of the world. Yes, I understand that in the '50s and '60s the "Big 3" were making cars as gigantic as possible, and in the '20s and '30s super high-end cars were gigantic. But over the last 40 years the average automobile has gotten bigger and way heavier. Also, that '72 Chevy wasn't 7 feet tall. Anyone who says that cars today aren't WAY taller than in the past has no idea what they're talking about.

I was born in 1950 and today's cars aren't WAY taller than in the past.
Our 2016 Avalon Touring is an inch taller than the 1959 Bel Air.

My point exactly! A Bel Air was a tall car in 1959. An Avalon is a short car today. It's an entire foot shorter than a RAV4, for example. Toyota sold 28,000 Avalons last year and 448,000 RAV4s. I mean c'mon, just look at any parking lot.....

I just have a thing for 80's velour and hood ornaments. Rust free low mile that I picked up a few years back. It's a fun local errand cruiser. No air cleaner flipping or one wheel burnouts. That's how I tortured my '89 Dodge Ram though
