Brake noise at 58,000 miles

Hi folks,
I have a 2.5 year old 2019 4runner SR5 with 58,000 miles and have been experiencing brake squeak the past 5k miles. I drive about 28k miles per year 90% highway and bought it new. 3 weeks ago left took it for maintenance at dealer and told them about the noise. They told me rotors needed to be resurfaced but pads still had 40% left. So we resurfaced the rotor but noise did not stop. Any ideas how to fix this? Noise sounds loud first miles of the day but still sounds at other times. Should the pads make this noise even if they still have 40% left? Any suggestions?

Thanks, Gus

My 2016 does that specially when it's wet or snow on initial drive once it's been driven for a while it's fine. The dealer doesn't think anythig of it, pads and rotors still good at 34k miles.

Pads could be glazed over perhaps from getting too hot. I'd just go ahead and replace those, it's pretty easy to do.

Mine started squeaking and never stopped. The pads and rotors are fine. Just ignore it if that's the case.

If they took the time to resurface should of just changed the pads at the same time.

They are not that expensive I'd just change them.

I will prob replace soon when needed. Is there any way to fix this noise prior to replacing pads?

Once a pad is "glazed over" from getting too hot, you need to replace it.

Fresh cut rotors should have also helped the situation by changing the contact area with the brake pads, but since that didn't work, you should just change the pads, and make sure the shims on the back are in proper place, or use "disc brake quiet". I use that stuff and never have had any brake noise.

Take everything apart and clean it. Lube the slide pins and use some sort of disc brake lube/quiet product on the back of the pads. If you are going that far though you might as well install new rotors and pads.

I use Sil-Glyde on the slide pins and Permatex 24115 on the back of the pads. I've never had any brake noise when using it. I don't think the 24115 stuff is still available nowadays though. It's a sticky dark gray grease. CRC has a similar looking product. I spread a thin layer on the back of the pads and it keeps them quiet.

If you do end up replacing your rotors & pads then I would suggest Akebono ProAct pads and Centric premium rotors. Both are good quality parts that aren't too expensive. An added bonus is the Akebono pads don't require any break-in procedure.

absolutely. I would question everything that dealer does, if they intentionally neglected to change the pads when the rotors were resurfaced.
