Rear Window Flags

Hi, 4Runner friends!

It's been a while since I posted, and I've fallen head-over-heals with my 4Runner after working out some issues. I decided to put those beautiful decals on it last year and today on a whim took them off because I'm going for the 'incognito' look as much as I can with this whole global pandemic... Don't want to draw attention to this beauty with those awesome flags.

Anyway, so after I've wiped away all the visible leftover adhesive... When the window is foggy, wet or I wipe it with window cleaner you can PERFECTLY see the outline of the decal as it was. It's almost as if I didn't take it off... then once it dries, or defrosts it disappears.

Can anyone help me with this, please?

I know this is bad... but this is what i've tried.

Olive oil.. got all over the window, the paint and me. Spent 20 minutes cleaning it all up, especially off the paint.. hope it doesn't damage it.

Rubbing alcohol (VERY careful to not get on paint)

and PURE ammonia straight out of the bottle (ALSO SUPER careful to not get on paint).

Nothing has worked. Am I going to be stuck just replacing the glass eventually? It's awful and bothersome as it's always foggy in the morning here on my glass.

Thanks,

Clay bar?

I was clay my windows while detailing and they can be really rough but n a new car from shipping. Works great

Do all your windows then add RainX or a sealant. Water runs off even better and ice flakes off

Appears to have etched the factory tint on your window, via ultra violet rays.
Give it a year or two should fade with time.

I took off a sticker on a friends rear suv window and it did the same thing you’re describing. It never went away either at least for a year now. That’s the bad thing about stickers, they sun fade into the window. The sun does some wicked stuff!

Couple things you can do:

1. Have you used something like goo gone to make sure any adhesive is completely gone?

2. Use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the window. I've had a similar issue and it worked. It'll take some elbow grease, but it'll come off.
