I had a lengthy conversation with a gentleman at Toyota corporate. He seems confident that my vehicle has no tracking installed. He relayed that there is a component on Limited models on the overhead console to call for concierge like services and such, which has a great deal more tracking. He had no response as to how Carfax would have such an exact mileage of my vehicle. I have sent an inquiry to Carfax and await a response from them regarding this matter.

Bingo. You have Toyota Service Connect. The truck is sending that information to your dealership and/or Toyota who in turn has sold your information to Carfax. The truck has a data connection that piggybacks on the Safety Connect radio.

I did not know what "Toyota Service Connect" was so I searched it online. It appears to be a phone application that is only compatible with the 2020 model 4Runner. I do not have a 2020 nor do I have the application.

Do you have a fuse labeled "Mayday" under the hood? This would power the Data Communication Module (DCM) if it has one. I pulled mine long ago.

My wife has a Rav4 and sends her info like driving habits, and driving score and crap like that. She likes it, but I'll stick to NOT having anything like that in my 4runner. She's able to remote start her Rav from her phone, but I can live without all that.

It's not an application, it's a service. Toyota Service Connect | Toyota Service App & More It is exactly what is used to report your exact mileage to Carfax.

Yeah, that will kill it on 19s and earlier.

The fuse in the 20s is under the dash and is labeled DCM but it also kills the microphone for hands free calling or Siri so pulling it is quite detrimental. That's pretty shitty.

I know it's unlikely to get an exact hit, but I do think this is the best bet. Mine always reports a number down to the mile and it's never exactly correct. If they're estimating for thousands of different cars, they're bound to guess right every once in a while.

Report back in several thousand miles and see if it still is in agreement!

It could be one of those apps by the car insurance companies that offer you a discount if you let them monitor your driving habits. For example Progressive's Snapshot App. Do you have any installed on your phone? Their terms and conditions are pretty wide open and they have your VIN and certainly pass accident info to carfax.

The car sends it via the safety system. There is a fuse you can pull to disable it

Thanks for the link. I called Toyota on this. They are adamant my vehicle is not equipped with this. I also have no applications on my phone in connection to my vehicle. Bluetooth, yes. I have sent an inquiry about this in writing. If anything comes of it I will report back.

Not in a 19 or older it shouldn't. In a 20+ it will disable the hands-free microphone which is terribly inconvenient.
