16" rims

Has anyone put 16" rims/tires on their 5th gen? Just wondering if they cleared the brakes and suspension components.

From everything I've read, no they will not fit. I have not personally tried though, so only relaying what I've read.

No they won't. Some people will say they fit because they confuse 16" and 17" FJ wheels, where the 17" ones are the same used on the TE.

16" rims

I can tell you first hand the front won’t fit. I had a set of SCS Ray10 wheels that I bought for a 3rd gen. That I wanted to install on to my 5th gen.
I got a set of tires mounted and found out the hard way.
But where there is a will, there’s a way...
I took my trusty grinder with a flap disk and went to town on the front calipers. After working my magic and removing a good amount of material both front wheels fit!
Then I bled the brakes... needless to say, I noticed the pedal wasn’t getting any stiffer.
Then I noticed the river of brake fluid on the garage floor.

I ended up installing a new set of WL calipers and rotors from a 08 4Runner and got everything to fit.

They don't fit. Had to sell my old 4R set with MT's on them cause of it.

Question for the OP.

Do you already have a set of 16” wheels, or do you still need to buy a set of wheels?

Oh wow. Always wondered if you could grind the calipers to fit the 16s, Do you think you could have gone a little less and still fit the 16s?

Nope. That was the bare minimum. If you really want 16” wheels, order the power stop kit for a 2008 4Runner with 16s.

I noticed no difference in braking performance.

Not yet, I am ordering new wheels and tires and the ones I want only go up to 16". Well, trying to anyway, I think due to mfg shut downs, shelf stock is depleted

Either that kit or you can go the route I did, and get Genuine Toyota parts. It ended up being more expensive but it was worth the piece of mind.

Here is a picture of my wife’s TRDP with 16’s.

What did you do? Swap out the rotors and calipers for ones designed for an FJ?
