My door speakers alone are getting 70 watts per channel, and I’m maxing my W1 out at 150 watts..? Lol! That was dumb of me.
So it sounds like you are completely happy with the 8 inch W3 in your factory sub enclosure. I’d get the W3 in a heartbeat at this point, but my 5 channel JL amp only puts out 225 watts at 4 ohms, which is what the impedance of the W3.
So I’m thinking on the new Audio Control 8 inch subs that just came out. They have a 2 ohm version that can do 350 watts. Looks to be similar dimensions for fitting in the JBL sub enclosure. Just to recap, I have a non JBL system in my 2016 SR5, I just obtained the enclosure and bolted it in.
You are one of the few people that understands my situation. Please let me know your thoughts.
Ps- The Sony AX150 head unit I got from Walmart for $250 bucks is absolutel crap. Lol! I just bought a Pioneer 2700NEX that is on the way.

Yeah, not surprising on the Sony HU lol, never buy anything at Walmart or Pep Boys
Sorry to hear about the W1, but I'm not surprised. I always run a separate amp for just my subs no matter what the configuration. I still think the W3 would be a huge upgrade over the W1, but I get what you're saying. In the end it's your money, I'm sure you'd be happy with the Audio Control, but I have no experience with them. I can't recommend my 8w3 enough, I was bumping it yesterday with the windows open just loving life

Does anyone know what the ohm's on the factory sub are I'm hoping I can use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...VWMGI839&psc=1
However it appears everyone is going with the 4 ohm. Thanks in advance for your help.

Meant to write you back for a while. After learning more about subs, that Audio Contol sub is almost laughable on the specs. So that was a hard pass. The JL 8W1v3 I got in there isn’t sounding too bad now that I have a better Pioneer HU in there. But…as much a I want to put a W3 in there, it doesn’t match my JL amp well cause I need a 2 ohm sub. The most promising one I’ve found is the newer gen 2 Alpine Type R.
It’s supposed to be a beast with good SQ and I can throw 350 RMS at it. It’s the same size on mounting depth as the W3, but I just don’t know the cu. ft. of the factory JBL enclosure. Do you happen to know?
Seriously appreciate your feedback
