I just took the OEM Toyota bug deflector off my 2008 (been on there at least since 2012, when I bought it) and it had caused some paint damage where it rubbed on the leading edge of the hood.

Yes, I think we will just leave it be for now, due to possibility of future paint damage should we ever decide to remove it.

If rock chips bother you, have some PPF installed, every 5-10 year replace it as it wears. I installed PPF my black sports car, replaced it at the 5 year mark, paint looks like new.
