As far as the OP goes, I've had my fair share of oil change nightmares as well. I've always changed my own, except when I was in college since I didn't have to facilities to do so. Jiffy Lube was pretty much the only option...

That's nuts. Last time I got new plates here in Texas they asked me to swap them in the parking lot and bring my old ones in. I told them I didn't have tools with me and could I please have my new plates. Never took them back and never heard anything.
