What do you know about my driving skills? How ****ing hard is it to maintain speed with your foot? How many people have died over the years by falling asleep from getting comfortable with the cruise control on? You kidding me? Did I say someone is out to get me? Did I not mention I know it is impossible to avoid this technology today? What does this have to do with carburetor's? You don't know shit about me. Toyota has no God Damn right to collect data from me to profit without my consent. It is simple as that.

There is a good point under all the ranting. There now seems to be a tacit agreement that buying a car is like buying a cell phone and you, by using it, tacitly agree to be spied upon and your data collected and sold and your only recourse is not to buy/use it.

I know several people who own Subarus with the TSS system, the cameras do not record, they just monitor for traffic and road lines in front of you

Does the Toyota one? Have we actually seen proof in the form of a video recorded from it that suggests that that video is being harvested and kept?
Some cars do have cameras in them from the factory. I think someone might have mentioned the corvette at some point, which with a certain package does. But that option is specifically there to let people record their lap times if they want and it has a way to download that stuff.
I'm unaware at the moment of any way that the camera system on the 4runner does the same, which is why I'm not too concerned. My understanding it's essentially live video without a storage device. The video is interpreted in real-time by the computer and then purged.
The car absolutely does log driving habits, as evidenced by the "drivers score" and the breadcrumbs stuff available in the app. But that still isn't some clandestine attempt to record millions of hours of video from millions of cars on the road for some sort of data collection.
As an aside, if the camera system did record, it would be pretty nice to have it in place of a standalone aftermarket dash cam. Assuming of course that you and you alone had access to the saved video.
Regardless, I'm betting that the camera on the 4runner doesn't record anything at all. It's a live feed, that's it

You can still buy vehicles from the 80's. Sell your "Big Brother" 4R and go to any salvage yard or low rider car show. You will see lots of low tech stuff .

I feel like some ppl in here mixed cocaine with pre-workout, lol.
Serious question, what's this driver score. We just got a 2020, now I want to know how my wife drives when I'm not in the car.

Do you have the toyota app installed and your call linked? It's not that hard to do if you haven't.
Midway down the screen in the app is the Driver Score. It's some bs measurement based on acceleration, cornering, and braking.

I have a 2020 TRD Pro that I’ve had for a few months.
I have never had any notification regarding lane control or whatever this “nanny” shit is supposed to be doing. Nothing. No messages on the screens, no voice announcing impending doom. Nada. Zero difference from my 2013 Trail, with the exception that TSS is apparently installed somewhere.
I never use cruise control in this vehicle or any other either.
I simply don’t need that stuff. I don’t hit other cars or pedestrians and that amazing track record, believe it or not, is due to my driving alone. No safety systems (except maybe a time or two with ABS) has ever once assisted my driving or improved an outcome.
A freakin camera to keep you in your lane? If someone needs a system to help keep them in their proper lane they shouldn’t be driving anything more complicated than a skateboard. Commercial drivers are another story......but nobody buys a 4R for commercial driving.
If it is electable, I’d shut down all of it in my TRDP. Want to provide something of marginal, possible utility to me? Let me utilize the cameras as dash cams with a 48 hour rewrite loop. Have it save the previous 10 minutes of events where there is a loss of traction, ABS, seat belt lock or airbags being deployed occurs. Let me access the camera from anywhere at anytime remotely. But to go to the trouble of attaching a fairly large box to my windshield with a camera in it......exclusively to help keep me in my own lane or to avoid colliding with other objects is literally useless to me. It’s slightly worse than useless because there’s a fairly large box permanently stuck to my windshield.
What ever that thing costs, I’d have MUCH preferred Toyota apply that expense to installing decent lighting throughout the vehicle. That’s far more useful to me than a lot of this “we know you’re dumb and prone to making bad decisions, so we’ll do the driving for you when we decide it’s necessary” safety crap.

Not saying that but if your sales person did not explain features to you then you either had a shitty sales person or just walked in and said "i want that one" and you were an easy sale.

I already knew about TSS before even going in the showroom. My mistake was not m.h owing about the camera on windshield ( I thought it was just the sensor M on the grill) and I did not know Toyota spied on me. The salesman actually told me where the owners manual was if I had questions, lol.
