I've been considering these sliders as well. Looking for more of a backup in case of a woops than intentionally sliding down a mountain with them. But then at the same time, I don't want to be worried about bending things and discouraging me from doing more offroading.
Greenlane website says "
*Will protect vehicle from rocker/door damage but not designed to be used as a high lift jack point. "
The way I understand things is (please correct me if I'm wrong), a high lift jack is just a static load of the weight of the vehicle. Whilst slipping off a rock and dropping all 4000+lbs onto a rock can quickly increase the weight of the vehicle as it lands. So if it can't even be used as jacking point, how could it actually be used as rock protection?
I wish someone would benchmark a few different brands/styles to see what works and the tradeoffs you get with size/weight/mounting options/etc... Why is it that the only manufacturer (I can find) who actually has the guts to put up a video of dropping a 4runner onto a rock with their sliders is 4x Innovations?
Funny, after putting my thoughts into writing now, I've talked myself away from buying Greenlane
