Update

Took her to my testing grounds at the back of my neighborhod to check clearances at full compression and articulation.

At full compression in the front, the tire is about 1/4" to 1/2" away from the body mount. I'm still able to cut a little more so I think I will just to be careful.

At full lock in reverse, with the wheel turned to the left, it slightly the front bumper rubbed. I've shaved about 1/2" off the bottom edge of the front bumper, and now there is no rubbing in any direction, even at full compression, even in reverse.

The rear is perfect. Close, but perfect; no rubbing at all.

You'll need some UCAs next. Adding some caster will push the wheel forwards and give you more body mount clearance.

If you don't plan on filling the gap of the BMC, at least trim the sharp corners.

Yes I'll be doing some JBA's in the future. I bought a lifetime alignment from my dealer so I can change my suspension al I want without paying for an alignment everytime.

You gotta read my friend! I've mentioned the only reason I haven't welded is the plates did not arrive yet.

I'll be rouding off the sharp corners, and I bought rounded RSG plates so weld on, so I'll probably gain aother 1/2" or more of clearance.

Looking good! I has planned on the RSG after I did the BMC myself with an angle grinder in about 15". I got lazy, and never got around to it, and theres already a circular hole in the Body mount, so other than looks I just didnt get to it. Never see it.

Since it isn't really a structural point, I'm also in no hurry to weld.

I ordered Metal Tech plates initially, but I cut too much of my BM and the plates were too small. I really couldn't find any plates that I liked, until I found RSG, but I did not like the laser cut "RSG" script they had. Well, I found out you can order RSG plates from Toytec for $10 cheaper and they don't have the large "RSG" logo cut into them.

I've even considered cutting the entire tire side of the BM all the way to the frame to get even more clearance, but thats a lot of work.

I've been skimming threads trying to get a good understanding, but I'm just asking here directly hoping for a knowledgeable answer. And no offense to OP, but I'd like to hear from someone who has done this and put it to the test off road.

Is there any work besides trimming the bumper/fender liner and a BMC that's necessary to run 285/75/17 tires?

I've seen references to hammering a pinch weld, but without pictures I have no idea what that entails.

I don't have any issues with cutting up my bumper more than it is. And I've resigned myself to the fact that a BMC will need to happen. I just want to know what I'm in for in addition to that... no surprises on my first trail ride after installing. I had a passing conversation with someone at Slee Offroad when I was buying an air compressor, and he seemed to think that 285/75/17 would entail a lot of additional effort.

I can read, I've just seen what sharp metal does to tires. I'm not convinced you're not going to rub and that edge is like a knife right now.

No offense taken, but are people thinking since this is a pretty green Pro that I haven't taken it off road? I realize I haven't done major rock crawling, but I took it through some pretty rough stuff yesterday before I posed it up on some boulders for pics. I articulated it as much as possible and rubbed my arm and hands all around the tires and wheel wells searching for areas that might need massaging or cutting and could find any, other than the sharp corner of the BM that I will be cutting when I weld the RSG plates on.

Also, keep in mind that most 285/75's are not true 34" tires, but more like 33.8 or so; about 1/4" smaller than these MT's. A K02 would fit even better than the tires that I chose.

You can also go with a 295/70 which is usually about 33.4-33.5" which gives you a very similar look.

Thank you! You could play it safe and do the same tire in a 285/70 or even smaller and you should be fine with minimal clearancing.

No worries

That sharp edge will be about 1/2" to 3/4" further away after next week. That picture was at full articulation with the wheel turned.

Re-gearing. First thing I would do, after installed 34” tires, before any wheeling. Just to keep my drive line and transmission happy.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. And I really wasn't trying to exclude your opinion, just wanted some input from someone who's been running this setup for a while. As someone else above me said, there are other situations that may cause issues that you haven't been through yet.

I've been told thats over $3k. I can find much better things to spend $3k on. I have 2 project cars that'll get that kind of attention.
