I don't think this is a common problem on 5th gens. Any chance something was spilled on the switch?
Since your driver seat heater works, and the switch isn't illuminating, I would definitely suspect the switch is the issue.
Looking at the wiring diagram, it appears both go to the same fuse (S/HTF FR) in the driver side junction block.
Probably a long shot, but check the connection on the switch isn't loose. Beyond that, I'd say it's probably the switch itself.
