Hayden 699 Transmission Cooler

Hey Guys, just wanted to throw this out. I purchased and had this transmission cooler installed downstream of the stock radiator. Massive improvement in temperatures at the torque converter. Highest ever recorded was 168F pulling just over 2000lbs up a hill and may have been in 5th gear (wasn't going fast but didn't have it locked out). Maybe 15 seconds after getting back on flat ground, the temps were in a free fall back to 138-143. It likes to stay ~140F to 158 depending on the terrain. Because it has a bypass "circuit" it almost seems like it "clicks" over some point because the temp will go up and then just rocket back down. Mounted it to the front aluminum bumper beam, sealed up the screws. Couldn't be happier. Its a 20,000 GVRW cooler so I should NEVER get over temp. Fit very well between the front clip and the factory radiator... all kinds of room in there.
Hope this helps someone. Highly recommend.

I will get some pictures after work today.
The need for the cooler is because I tow about 2000lbs (including the trailer) and was seeing torque converter temps around 205F. Now I've never seen higher than 168F and that was for less than a minute. There are as many opinions as there are people but towing or not, I want my transmission to stay below 200 when towing and any other time, I want 140-160F.
The hayden unit has an internal bypass to allow the transmission to come up to temp quickly. But there might be some other kind of bypass if you live in a very cold climate. Central Texas may see a week's worth of days below freezing in any given year so I'm not worried about completely bypassing the cooler.

Good review. I am searching for an upgraded tranny cooler for mine.

I'm wondering what the outside temps were when you recorded your trans temps.

Outside temps were around 80F.
So two screws into the bumper beam. One into the black bracket at the top and attached with aluminum angle. Screws are sealed to keep water out. Sorry about the pictures being rotated. My uploads all do that for some reason. My phone was in the upright position the whole time.

I have have a cooler on hand, ready to install. How did you differentiate between in the inlet and outlet hoses on the transmission? I haven't found a definitive answer on which is which, so I can ensure I install it on the downstream side of the radiator.

Did the hose sizes matchup? I've read about some of the other tranny coolers (B&M) out there on this forum where the hoses and outlets were different sizes compared to what's factory on the 4Runner.
