Anyone have experience using an ORP alloy wheel on the spare?
I'm about to upgrade to Toyo Open Country A/T IIIs (stock 265/70/17) on my 2020 ORP and am planning to go ahead and swap the steel spare wheel with another alloy one to make 5-tire rotation possible.
I've been trying to figure out if it will fit the same under the car as the steel wheel and if there is much risk of scuffs/scratches to the alloy. I actually have one of the alloy wheels under there right now, as I ended up with a punctured sidewall over the weekend and it seems like it is sitting a little lower than the steel wheel. Am I wrong? Would a cover for the spare be worth picking up?
I've done a decent amount of googling and the closest thing that I found to an in-depth discussion on the topic was a thread in here from 2013. I very well may have missed something, so go easy.

It will work fine. Yes you will see more tire as the rim is a bit wider and the AT tire shoulder is more square. But fit is not an issue and there is nothing up there to scratch the rim. As for scuffs and scratches from off-roading, mine is mounted with the face of the rim up and the back of the rim toward the ground, so I am not worried.

Thanks for the reply! Have you experienced any issues with the spare being hit by rocks/etc? It seems like the tire is not that much higher than the rear diff, but I know a bit of lift (which I am not planning on for a little while) would fix it.

I've never had any problem but I've never dropped that area onto a large rock. I've also never dragged it across anything that damaged it and if I did, I'm guessing it would also damage the rear bumper. I do some pretty good trails with it but nothing that is going to break things. More like heavily rutted forest service roads, tracks to remote fishing spots, etc. where there are ditches, and maybe driving over a log or two. If I was really into rock-crawling or other extreme off-roading, at minimum, I would get a bumper mount, and more likely, I would've just kept my Jeep.

I do the 5 tire rotation. The alloy wheel with tire fits just fine in the spare tire area. No issues with rubbing on the swaybar. I'm running 275/70's. The face of the wheel is susceptible to damage if the outside face is towards the pavement. I scratched one wheel wheeling. So be careful of that.

5 tire rotation is a waste of time and money. I'd just get a tire of the same size, preferably used, and keep it on the steel spare, remembering to keep it inflated.

I have an OR/ORP wheel in the spare area. Was also originally scared of getting scratched down there when I got it last year. Fast forward a year with a bunch of offroading...all wheels are scratched. Not a concern anymore lol. Never had issues with hitting the wheel itself offroad but have scrapped the tire occasionally.

+1, same.
2017 ORP on 285s and the spare (yes, the 285 fits in the stock spot) not only barely fits without rubbing, but high speed on the dirt and washboards even with the face up under the vehicle is going to have all kinds of small rocks, sand etc gettin' all up in there.

I've seen this debated elsewhere, but why do you think it is a waste of money?
The way I see it, 5 tire rotation will end up about the same price in the long run but will increase the tread life overall by around 20%.

This may help. Northridge 4x4 doesn't carry it anymore, hopefully you can find it elsewhere. Also doubles as a recovery point and a step.

I installed a spare OR wheel with LT255/80/17 aka skinny tall 33" tires with no issues. I had the face of the rim facing upward to limit the scratches to the face when I hit the trails.

Ideally you think you'll rotate 5 tires and have longer tire life for all 5, but in reality you'll wind up with 3 relatively new tires and 2 with weird wear that need to be replaced. Also tire dealers HATE to sell tires in odd numbers, so most deals/sales apply to tires bought in sets of 4 (this also sucks for people who own cars that have bigger tires in the back).

The Limited models come with full set of 5, and I've used a full set of 5 "real" wheels even after switching to the ORP wheels. No big deal.
