From experience I can say that a larger intake can give you a little better throttle response, but no one is even saying that.

I have yet to see a before and after dyno run.

So I can spend $1,100 to make it louder. Am I reading this correct?
Def louder. Nothing dramatic but does have better pull in the 2k-5k range.

Supposed to be 50 state legal. You might need to call Toyota to confirm and get a CARB decal.

Thanks.
I'll hit up Toyota about the CARB Decal.
Last time I spoke to them they said it wasn't legal, but I'll call a different dealer and see what they say about the CARB decal.

There is no power increase. The louder sound just makes people think their truck is more responsive. And even if there was a "5hp" increase you could never tell and feel that in a 5000 pound truck. It's still going to drive exactly the same. Highway driving and up hill climbs are going to feel the same. I have a TRD intake just for the sound because all I hear is the loud fan when I need to accelerate hard uphill. Unless you're supercharged you won't feel a power difference.

LOL good point. You have effectively changed your power to weight ratio by .01 lbs/hp.

I just installed a TRD intake. I bought the parts individually, cheaper that way by about $100. There has been a raging debate for decades about the effectiveness of aftermarket intakes. Many people claim they make no difference other than noise. So here's my take: It cost all total with shipping $255.33 (I already had an AEM dry filter). Installation was super simple. Yes, it howls at the upper end of the RPMs when my foot is in it. Throttle response right off idle is noticeably better. Bear in mind that I do have a Peddle Commander, so that is a big part of it, but I had that on since the first week of ownership. My around town mileage seems to be better. During normal driving, I can hear what the engine is doing and I like that. It pulls a little harder than it did before at the important RPMs, idle to 3k where we do most of our driving. Bottom line is I'm pleased with it and I'm leaving it on. Here's the breakdown on the parts ordered through BAM Wholesale Parts. I will post more when I have more miles on it and after a few tanks of gas. Next up: removing the redundant cats, restrictive Y pipe and boat anchor muffler in favor of a Flowmaster 70 series (I love the way these sound!)

PTR03-35090-AA TRD Air Intake Lid and Hardware $76.15 1 $76.15
PTR03-35090-AF TRD Air Intake Lower Air Box $58.46 1 $58.46
PTR03-35090-AC TRD Air Intake Flow Accelerator $6.35 1 $6.35
PTR03-89100-AA TRD Air Intake Tube $27.37 1 $27.37
PTR03-89100-AB TRD Hardware Kit, Air Intake System $32.68 1 $32.68
PTR03-34071 Service Parts, TRD, Air Flow Monitor, Cold Air Intake. Air Intake System. $18.00 1 $18.00

My ORP came with the TRD Exhaust installed from the factory. I believe it is supposed to increase torque. At first when I bought the vehicle (bought it without test driving it), I was excited for the exhaust. Then I found the noise to be annoying. Considered removing it, but I really liked that the exhaust was to the side of the vehicle, especially for driving with the rear window down.

However, after not too long, I have learned to enjoy the sound. I only hear when accelerating on the freeway. And I now look forward to hearing it. And we are approaching an environment where vehicle noise will be more of a novelty because of electrification.

I am very happy with it now.

Before you spend $ on the Flowmaster, you might want to consider the URD Spec U exhaust system.

Turns out they're located out of Ohio and shipping was quick. Nice little tone change when you put your foot into it. Have an AEM dryflow filter to swap in that came a couple hours after i buttoned everything up so we'll see if that makes any difference. Scratches the itch a little bit but confirms my prediction that I wouldn't be satisfed until the exhaust was addressed as well. My 4th gen V8 spoiled me.

I understand the limitations, but there's no reason it has to sound like a vacuum cleaner either. Have no expectations or desires of heads turning to see what muscle car is coming down the street when i'm driving it, would just like it to make better noise than my wife's 4 cylinder Honda Accord
