TRD Intake and Exhaust
From what I'm reading is the TRD Intake and Exhaust really only make it louder. No difference in power or MPG.
From experience I can say that a larger intake can give you a little better throttle response, but no one is even saying that.
I have yet to see a before and after dyno run.
So I can spend $1,100 to make it louder. Am I reading this correct?

False I definitely felt a better response after installing both setups besides a little more noise on our trucks I think is a good thing it gives us the grunt to match its look

Does it need to reach a certain RPM before you can notice a change in sound with cai? Or does it sound louder even at an idle?

I noticed better throttle response with the intake, but its where you would expect it. Higher in the rpm range. Is it life altering? Nope. Is it great for passing at highway speeds? Yep. Worth the money? Up to the individual, but for me its purdy to look at and makes the engine sound less like a blender.

Found it! No video, but a thread from this forum
Look at post #3; just the CAI added 5hp and 19tq
The Build Thread of my Rocky !!! - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Largest 4Runner Forum
I also find it hard to believe that adding better flowing exhaust doesn't give you at least a few hp. Goes against everything I know. Typically the exhaust and intake go hand it hand, and should make even more power when combined.
Based on the numbers he shows for just the CAI, if they are real, I would guestimate +10-15hp and + 20-25tq total with both, but what do I know

Get them for sound, not power or mpg increases.

Anyone know whether TRD AFe or K&N producer the loudest sound? I've looked but can't find a direct comparison between the 3 on a 4Runner. Or if one produces a more full bodied sound...

After installing a TRD exhaust and K&N factory replacement air filter (Not CAI), I did feel a little throttle response. Yes the little bit of power is there. Was it worth it for my needs? Yes and I also like the black TRD exhaust tip. I knew going into getting one if for some reason I did not like it, I would have no problem selling it locally, and would probably get what I paid for it. Yes there are ways of ordering it online but most folks who aren't aware will try to order it or go to their local Toyota dealer asking for one will need a TRD Pro VIN or the order can not be placed.

Personally I don't care about making it louder. I'm under no delusion that the 'S' in SUV stands for "Sports'. 0-60 in 8 Sec, with a quarter mile time of 16.0 Sec.
Blah. At least by today's standards. It would have been amazing in the 1970's though. Has anyone done the bubble porthole mod yet?

I've been trying to look around, but I was interested in getting a TRD CAI, but I heard that they are not legal in California. Is that true?
