Newer Rear Window Controls on Tailgate Garnish installed on previous 5th gens

Ok my search skills has diminished, has anyone upgraded their older style tailgate garnish to the newer version with the rear window controls? If so, is the keyless entry feature required to have it? Are the previous 4Runners pre-wired to accept it? Are they plug n play?

The tailgate garnish with the window buttons was only on the Limited and Nightshade trim levels with the smart keys, I don't think you can convert easily. If you put the key in and hold to the side it will roll the rear window down/up on the other trim levels, in case you weren't aware.

Yes I’m aware of using the key but it would be a nice feature to have without having the key on your body at the time.

It is also available on the new TRD PROs

The buttons still only work if you have the smart key on you.

It’s available on all 2020 trims with smart key.

I think it can be retrofitted without a smart key. But it will only function if the doors are already unlocked.

The buttons are just an extension of the key in the left or right direction.

I figured that, just wanted confirmation and if anyone has done it before. Would be a cool mod to do.

It's been asked before and it isn't easy to retrofit. It's a smart key only function from the factory.

Surprised it is not easy. I did the mod someone was selling at one time that acts just like the key in. Unlock, lock, roll window up or down, and open rear tailgate. It is nice when car camping to have those abilities from the back. Very easy installation, just a couple wire taps.
Guess with the smart key integration that can be the kicker. Plus I’m not sure I would be comfortable with that ability with no key. Wonder if these key fob replicators can operate it, assuming so.
