Failing Fuel Pump: Dealing with Toyota Corporate and Local Dealer

I have a 2014 4runner Trail that I just had the UCA's replaced on. Before dropping off the car I installed the Anytime-Backup Camera which included some minor wiring.

On the way back from picking up the truck (2-minute drive) the car died as I was making a turn. I thought this may have had something to do with my wiring so I went over all the grounds and connections and tightened/secured everything. Next day on the way to work my car died backing out of driveway as I was making a sharp turn. Car started right up so I went to work. The next morning the car died again after leaving a parking space and turning onto the exit. The engine stalls and the lights on the dashboard come on. I stopped taking other people in my car because of this, and have altered my route to work.

I did some research and this seems to align with the fuel pump issue. So i dialed corporate who gave me a case number and said the local dealer would be reaching out that same day. They emphasized this was a huge safety issue and said the dealer would provide me with a suitable truck since I use my 4runner to visit construction sites and occasionally deliver material. 2 days pass and I let corporate know the dealer has not reached out. They say they notified the dealer and they will reach out the same day, all under the same case number. No word from the local dealer. It's been about 5 days and I have not heard back from corporate or the local dealer.

What is the best course of action to take?

Your next step is to brace for impact. You’re going to be dealing with a dealer and a warranty claim so you’re in for a world of pain.

The NEXT step after mentally preparing yourself for the shite journey that sounds to be already underway, is to call the dealer and speak to them directly in regards to what corporate is telling you.

Godspeed.

This situation sucks and I hope I don’t ever get into the same one. I hope you get it resolved soon. I got the same fuel pump recall notice in the mail as most did here also. Just waiting for my local Toyota service center to contact me when they have the part and are ready to install the new updated pump. Please keep up us updated with your situation.

Curious on what’s the current mileage on your rig?

Forgot to mention the vehicle was not purchased through the local dealer and is under warranty, but this being a recall it does fall under that umbrella. I've only used the dealer sparingly for the airbag recall and a differential oil change a few years back, so no relationship to go off of, unfortunately.

I'm sitting at about 90,500mi. I think my next step will be to reach out to corporate one more time via email so I can continue that written record, then reach out to the dealer directly once I get a response from corporate.

I’m close to 86K. I’m wondering if states with a colder climate could be a factor to the failing fuel pumps? Looks like your location is New York? My rig has been in sunny California most of its life.

Did you get a letter in the mail from Toyota on the fuel pump recall notice?

So, did you take it to the dealer so they could look into this issue? Were there any codes to indicate a failed fuel pump or other cause? Seems as though you have jumped the gun calling Toyota when this issue could be resolved locally; unless you did that and left it out of your post.

What is the point of this post? If the 4Runner is not running properly, get it to the dealer! Why would anyone waste their time "reaching out" to "Toyota Corporate?" Get the truck into the dealer before someone gets hurt. Kids these days. Now get off my lawn!

Gotta agree with this...your next step is to call the dealership and talk to the service department.

Recalls are different than warranty work, but the end result is essentially the same.

It doesn't matter what dealership you purchased it from they will all honor the warranty and/or recall work order.
