A question about UCA's and wheels and tires
So I have a 19 trdorp and I like the wheels that are on there. I want something a little more beefy and since I have a lift I am thinking of going 285's. I know the stock wheels are heavy but can I use the JBA UCA's OEM Stock for stock wheels with 285's? I want to lift the 4runner soon and I have been reading that I can use my stock wheels if I go with STD high caster and then switch wheels down the road to save some weight later?

I think you’re going to have some issues with OEM wheels and JBAs running a 285. I was going to go with them, but even running FN 17x8 with 4.5 BS I would rub. Could clear 275s but not 285s. I think they recommend 4.3 BS to not rub. I went with Icon Deltas.

With JBA's, stock wheels, and 285's you will contact the UCA. Will require spacers. Then you will rub the shit out of your body mount.
Ask me how I know.
Ended up chopping my body mount before swapping to SCS wheels with a better offset. That could have potentially been avoided.

I run 285s on mine with Eibach Pro Kit and stock UCA for awhile now. Picture shows on stock TRDOP wheels and now I’m on aftermarket ProComp wheels with no issues. All I’ve done is the front fender mod. Not sure if this helps you but why not just lift and put the tires on and wait on UCA. I’ve got SPCs sitting in my shop.

I've found the JBA arms to be hit or miss on my setup. With a 3" lift they seemed to clear with stock wheels and 285 tires with just a little bit of grinding on the UCA. I put my lift back down around 1.5-2" in the front and now they do rub with 285s. They also rub a little with 275/60/20 tires on my 20" Limited wheels. So I'd just plan on them probably rubbing some. The bummer about it is that I think they could be re-designed a little bit to clear without any issues with spring clearance.

Okay I know nothing about UCA's , so which ones should I go with then since it wont work. Or should I just wait and get the High caster UCA's and the SCS wheels I want. I have had the lift in my garage since the 4th of July sale and the LFD bumper is a monster and I don't think the stock rear can handle it or else I would just put it on and do the lift later. I do know I want 285's and I have a 3 inch lift. I don't want to go cheap I want to go low expense. I just don't have the budget to get wheels and tires and UCA's after getting the full bumper. I even looked for used UCA's for a quick fix and I really don't want spacers since I know I want the -38 offset wheels.

So why not throw your lift on then head to the tire shop and mount up the 285s, come back home and start installing your bumper?
Just wait and do UCA's later when you need the extra caster to clear the -38s. Replenish funds and buy UCA and SCS wheels later.

because people on here said that you have to change your UCA's when you intsall a 3 inch lift.

nice. I've been trying to figure this out. with the -38 SCS's, bmc, and 285, it's not rubbing?

You don't "need" UCAs. However UCA's help mitigate issues that come from lifting. Mainly caster and downtravel. Just like how you don't "need" to upgrade your suspension when you throw your rear bumper on but it'll help with sag and overall suspension performance with the added weight. If you want UCA's and 285s... just throw on some spacers. It's a much smaller investment if you're waiting to buy wheels, it'll get you going for the time being, and I bet you can offload those spacers pretty quickly.

Rubbing is subjective. Alignment plays a big part whether something will rub or not and even then... you have to factor in different heights in tires (not all 285s are made the same). You can mitigate your issues with a bmc, then all you'll probably have to worry about is trimming some plastics with that setup.

cool. Im planning on doing that anyway. is there another UCA that will work better? That's really what I'm trying to figure out.

I personally run SPC's and you can actually physically adjust them to maximize caster. Some people have their beef with SPC's, however I haven't had any issues. Plus they are relatively low maintenance and quiet.

I'm not running -38 offset. Think mine are -10. SCS makes a few different offsets. I would imagine -38 would be closer to my oem wheels with 1.25" spacer which rubbed like hell.
Like the other guy said alignments can play into that as well. My first alignment after lifting wasn't great and I had some drama with the same shop next go. Ended up going to firestone.
Even then I still rubbed slightly at full lock while reversing and coming off a curb size obstacle.
My BMC now is prob good for 35's given the right uca and alignment combo. Not super interested in regearing tho.
