Shipping a 4runner

Hey everyone,

So I’m buying a 2019 ORP from a dealership in Wisconsin and need to ship it down to Texas. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a transport company?

Fly up, drive back. I did with mine. Transport costs were obscene to get a TE to a dealer in NJ, so I bought it at a dealership in SLC -- flew out and they picked me up from the airport in the truck so i could do a "test drive." Had a nice break-in drive back to the east coast.

As the others have said flying up and driving back will be the best. I work in the transportation industry and my clients that haul cars always have issues. from road derby flying up to diesel exhaust contaminating the paint, and even low hanging trees smacking cars on the trailer. Plane tickets are cheap right now.
Fly up, get some Spotted Cow beer and drive home with it. The drive is not bad at all. I have done it in my 4runner. Stop in Illinois for some Revolution Brewing beer as well.

One more “fly up and drive it back” here. I have done this before and the flight, gas, & food were a lot cheaper than an open transpo.

I transported mine in September from PA to GA and it was $500. It was a nightmare. Got quote $400 and then the car was not picked up and the contract was dropped by the driver because he showed up at the dealership at 11PM (yeah not smart on his part) and it was closed and he was mad and said it wasn't worth $400 to go back.

So the company found a new driver but that driver said it he wanted $500. I agreed and the driver took 4 days to pick it up after being promised he was picking it up the next day. Took 2 days to get to GA and the driver called me and said he was about an hour away and wanted to double check my address and said he was given the wrong address and he already passed my house an hour ago. Then 30 minutes later I got a call that he was broken down, so I had to pick it up on the side of the Interestate (an hour away).

Car had no issues, but it wasn't the hassle. I should have just flown and took my time and enjoyed some of the cities and sights on my way back. Lesson learned.

Dealers subcontract with third parties and will shop around quotes. Figure 700-800 for that kind of trip uncovered, 1400-1500 for covered. Don't forget to tip your driver.

I shipped both of my Porsches to CA in winter, one went without a hitch, the second the driver had a heart attack and the car disappeared for a few days.

Edit: the driver lived. His brother had to get the car carrier and didn't have the contact info for the customers.

If you don't want to hassle with the flight, and you have a bud who likes road trips, then drive up/back. One benefit to that is if a real problem crops up with the 4Runner sale, you don't have to scramble for a return flight.

I flew to Las Vegas to pick up my 4R then drove it back to LA.
Not a long drive but Vegas was Fun.
No one is on the road right now.
So the drive should be great and Gas is cheap.
