Seat Extension Rails for taller driver

Hey All,

I'm 6'5" and have owned my TRD for a little over a month now. The more I drive it the more I notice how uncomfortable I am with leg room. I was wondering if anyone knows of any after market companies that make seat extension rails? I have heard from one company but they don't offer anything for the new body styles without driving out to California and leaving my car there for a few weeks to prototype- something I just can't do.

Head room is not a problem (no sunroof) and I have messed around with seat settings with no success. I know there are some threads on here that discuss this issue but wanted to know if anyone has any new input.

I really want to be happy with my new T4R. Any feedback is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Kirill

i've wondered the same thing, but my conclusion is that i would also need the steering wheel to extend more to be comfortable (in my experience this is the same issue with every japanese car i've ever driven)

Kirill, I have the same problem, 6.5 250 lbs and I have a gen 2. I am just getting it running and haven't looked into it but I am hoping that I can move the seat back, drill new holes, re-bolt it, have you tried that yet?? I had a tracker and did that to it, moved it back 8 inches, nobody could sit behind me but that was their problem.

I'd be interested in that as well. I'm a hair shorter at 6'4" and, while I wouldn't say I'm uncomfortable, a couple extra inches of leg room would be nice.

I'm 6'4". I'm actually fine with the legroom. I want to drop my seat an inch so I stop hitting the roof with my head and I can wear a hat . I'm guessing good luck with that

I am guessing that you will not see something like this because it could diminish the protection capabilities of the airbags and even without that concern it would be a liability nightmare. 'Murica

I know there are companies that make them for Wranglers. Wonder if anyone here has done any sort of modification for more room.

Anecdotal and tangential - back around 2004-2005, I was in an accident in my '98 F-150 where the airbags deployed. I was sitting far enough back that the seatbelt stopped me about 3" shy of the airbags. Had a nice diagonal bruise across my torso from the seatbelt the next day. Needless to say, I have a lot more faith in seatbelts than airbags.

Smile

UPDATE: I found a local business (that of all things customizes Sprinter vans for off-road use) that is willing to move my seat back. Cost is $650 for the work using the existing mounting brackets. Best part is it was approved by the dealer and will not effect my warranty. Turns out the shop I found does this work for a bunch of the Utah Jazz players cars.

Haven't scheduled the appointment yet (work will take two days) but I am glad to know it can be done. Should be getting the seat moved back sometime next month. I will update once everything is in order.

It looks like extendmyseat.com has brackets for the 4th Gen. 4Runner. Has anyone found something for the 5th Gen.?
