Picked up my 3rd 5th Gen on Saturday
I ordered and received my first 5th gen in late 2009. It was a 4x2 Limited, White over black. I and drove the heck out of it. I sold it with 160,000 miles on it for $19,000 in 2015.
Drove a Lexus car for a few years. I missed having and SUV and had my sights set on a new truck.
In 2018 I ordered a Nautical Blue over redwood Limited. That time I opted for a 4x4. I immediately upgraded the speakers, matted the doors, and had the whole thing ceramic coated in Cquartz Finest Reserve. I loved the truck except for the stereo/navi screen and the speedo cluster, which both looked cheap to me. I missed the orange from the first 5th gen. The blue and redwood started to get old though, especially the blue. I had almost 50,000 miles on it when I got a phone call.
My dealer called me the other day. They're running out of inventory and needed some stuff to sell. Offered me almost $30k for my truck and with some quick math I figured I could get into a 2020 for about the same payment.
Saturday I got it. White over black 4x4 Limited. It's loaded. Haven't driven it a bunch since our weather has been crap. First impressions are it is tighter than the blue one and I love the new speedo cluster and stereo/navi. It also has the dynamic laser assisted cruise.
I took it to a detailer and learned the Cquartz has basically doubled in price. I really enjoyed that and want to get it on the new one so I have another guy coming over to look at it for an estimate.
I want to do the speaker upgrades as they made a difference. What are people doing these days? Junking the stock JBLs and upgrading to better ones?
I also want to do an exhaust. Any thoughts on Magnaflow vs Flowmaster? The TRD is a side exit and the Limited has a cutout on the rear bumper for the tailpipe so I need a straight one. I guess the TRD is out.
I'm also getting a new dash cam installed. Had the Rexing in the 2018, I liked it. The new Rexings have phone connectivity which is a nice feature for $100.
Anything else I should consider?
