Nice dude! I wish I could still go out there. That was always fun as hell. I think my old ZJ which now lives in WA has an IBSP sticker still on it from like 2006.

I keep a few "go" bags and bins with stuff I might need depending on what I'm doing. If I might need that stuff, I just put it in the back and bring it with. Shovel is handy, but small hand saw has been even more handier. Battery powered chainsaw is handy too.

Quick fist on in the inside of the rear door panel. I have a small hatchet/hammer in my tool box and I don't carry an axe. I do sometimes carry a 20v chainsaw.

Lots of folks do an axe/shovel combo

And what brackets are those? I keep my ax, shovel, chainsaw and everything else INSIDE where it remains un-stolen. I am blown away by some rigs I see with all the accoutrements on top and on the outside like Okies fleeing the Great Depression. If these vehicles were actually taken into the woods half that crap would get ripped off by branches and protruding rocks...

They're called "quick fist". A pair of them runs about $10. Or they come in various bulk packs. There are probably even cheaper versions, but the real ones are good quality rubber and last a long time.
END OF ROAD Original Quick Fist Clamp for mounting tools & equipment 1" - 2-1/4" diameter (Pack of 2) - 10010 - C Clamps - Amazon.com

I just use sheet metal screws directly into the plastic door cover panel. Shovel has been there in mine for 6 years. No problems.

Oooh I like this. Wonder if they could take the max axe weight. It's a little heavy on one side because if all of the attachments. It would get it off my floor though.

It's gotta be less than the 25 lb rating per side, I'd just be worried about the mounting screws pulling out. Especially if someone slams the trunk closed.

You could use more than 2 mounts and it might help. Could also do a more secure mount by removing the panel and mounting with machine screws and a fender washer and nut on the back side. I think the screws pulling out of the panel would be the most like way it would fall off.

Also - if you put too much weight on, the door won't want to say open. I'd open the door and put the max axe on top of the open door to see if it will stay open before you try mounting it if that's an issue.
