For those of you who carry shovels and axes, a question

How is it mounted and do you have pics? I am looking for ideas We have a LFD rear bumper thats at powder coating and I am thinking about mounting it on the bumper somehow since we don't have a roof rack yet.

If you have a hilift mount on the bumper, you could mount the shovel to the hilift. Google hilift shovel mount

Cable lock through the D handle (if you have a d handle) to the clevis on the Hilift. Has worked for me to deter the opportunistic thief. That is assuming you have a means of locking the hilift. Most rear bumpers Ive seen do.

Depending on your rack you might be able to get the Eezi Awn K9 shovel and axe mount to fit. It's lockable.

It can go the opposite way too...

I remember back in the day on some Jeep forum we used to always reference "the turds with the yard tools on their roof".

Haha, true. But a shovel is actually pretty useful when dispersed camping as you can dig a fire pit, bury your fire and bury your waste in areas allowing fires and not requiring waste to be packed out. Axes are somewhat less useful and most people probably have them as jewelry on their rack. I just bring a small hatchet and folding saw if I plan on having a fire.

Edit: I should also mention In a lot of national forests an axe, shovel and water are required for dispersed camping by the FS.

Shovel is required at Island Beach State Park too in order to go drive out on the sand. I used to do that in the summer every year when I lived down there. Max axe in trunk covers all bases, and lays nice and flat on the floor behind the rear seat.

I was really hesitant on the initial cost but looking back, I have had mine 20 years now and it's one of the best wheeling or severe weather tools I own.

Well, the axe is 28 inches and the shovel is 44.75. I think they can fit inside. I would like to keep them out of the weather. I think it would be easier to have them on the bumper but inside is good alsi. does anyone have them on the rago mounts?
