Crawl Control on 2020’s work ok?

Over on tacomaworld, some 2020 Pro people were saying that the crawl control wasn’t working. And that the truck would stop even trying a mere incline.
One guy took this up with his dealer.

Crawl control not working | Tacoma World

I was wondering if is working ok on on the 2020 4Runners.

I did some crawl control tests and posted it there:
“I just compared the CC of my wife’s 2020 Off-Road Tacoma to my 2017 Off-Road 4Runner.
Very disappointed in the Tacoma!

In my gravel driveway of approximately 4-5 degrees.

Tacoma:
Just up the driveway. No problem.
Chocked at a stop. Front tires with 4X4’s an rear with 2x4’s. Wouldn’t budge! Didn’t even try. Same with all speed settings.
Backed up about 3 feet for a head start. Would come to a dead stop at lowest 2 setting. At speeds over the 1st two settings, it would make it over. But that would be easy in any car.

4Runner:
Chocked all four tires with 4x4’s (on Tacoma used 2-4x4’s and 2-2x4’s).
No problem whatsoever, Chalked from a dead stop.
At first it kind of gently tried, then it hit it like it meant business.

Lost faith on the 2010 Tacoma.
Gained faith in my 4Runner.

There is obviously a programming difference.”

I can just hear the Ford & Jeep guys sayin, “Do you know how to stop a new Tacoma on the trail?” ...with a 4X4 post!”

Works for my 2020. Tried it on some incline with 3"-4" of soft snow melt and it went up well.
I don't have any other prior year of crawl control to compare it against though, so take that with a grain of salt.

Talking

Interesting, the 4runner is still a Japanese manufacturerd truck that shares the same chassis as the landcruiser prado witch is a world market truck and arguably built for a much heavier duty cycle than the US only market Camry powered Tacoma it makes sense the the electronic off road aids would have more aggressive programming

But apparently it worked fine on 2019’s and prior Tacos.

The one guy was told finally told by “Toyota Corporate” that there were changes power, torque, and shift points, and that it was working as intended.

Testing our 2020 Taco on my driveway tells me that the crawl control on 2020 Tacos will be totally useless on the trail.

Mall Control is the same across the board. It's really a gimmick though.

No it’s not. Kind of.

Do you happen to own a 2020 Tacoma too?

Using crawl control, a 2020 Taco was stopped in it’s tracks, where a 2016 wasn’t.

YouTube

Still wondering about the 2020 4Runner.

If I have a chance tomorrow, I could probably try it in the driveway. I'll throw a 2x4 and some other stuff in front of it and see how it does.

It was always a gimmick.

I wouldn't touch a turd gen with a 10 foot pole. I just don't see why Toyota would change anything between vehicles.

FWIW I just tested my 2020 4Runner up my ~30 degree driveway and it worked just fine on first or second setting. First is a little jerky and second speed is a lot smoother. Went right up.

The Tacos have been working fine up a grade like that too, until there’s an obstacle.
A real test would be with a couple of 4x4’s in front of the front tires, crawl control on speed one, on that same grade.

My ‘17 Off-Road, no problem.
Our 2020 Taco would stop.
