TPMS doesn't show spare on a 2020 TRD Pro

My 2020 TRD Pro does not show tire pressure on the spare. Should it?

It seems to show the spare in the owners manual.

I tried reregistering the sensors again but still does not show the spare.

You didn't state it so I thought I would ask, did you crawl under there and look to see if your spare is even equipped with TPMS?

I would guess to say that it isn't unheard of that a dealer may have needed and swapped out a spare then replaced.

What's interesting is that my 2020 TRD Pro does not either (and just assumed it did not have a TPMS reading for the spare tire).

I wonder if it's an artifact of the change over to the different tires and wheels as these vehicles come into port. They actually left an o-ring out of the TPMS sensor of one of the front tires that resulted in a persistent slow leak from the day I got the vehicle delivered, so my confidence is not high .

I plan on upgrading tires pretty soon including the spare (since the stupid highway tire is there), so will see how that plays out then.

As I remember from previous threads about TPMS, the Limited is the only trim with a TPMS in the spare. It's because other trims have a steel rim for the spare which the TPMS sensor won't fit; while the Limiteds have a spare rim that matches the others. However, this may differ depending on what year we're talking about. I still think it's pretty lame that you need a computer and Techstream to even read the TPMS values that do exist.

It looks like I need to lower the spare to see the top side of the wheel to see the valve stem.

Mine doesn't either. I'm assuming it's not supposed to. No other vehicle I've had since TPMS became a "thing" has either.

On the 2020 you can display all the tire pressures right on your information screen. Huge improvement from the previous ones (and great when running offroad).

Actually helped me realize I had a tire going down with a nail on it during a drive to Salt Lake for a ski trip earlier this year. Literally watched the pressure coming down 1 PSI or so an hour.

Seems like spare tire pressure would be a handy thing to know since it's hard to get to.

I'm hoping I can add a sensor to the spare.

AZ Craig - thanks, good to know. On our 2013 all you get is a light when a tire is low; and it doesn't tell you which one. It did come on once when my wife was out. Turned out to be a nail; so I put the spare on. Former Tempe resident here!

You can buy sensors. They are about $50 each give or take, add the fifth in techstream (my 2013 supports five) I have know idea if the sensors work with steelies.

I bought my last set of sensors on Amazon of $33 each, genuine Denso 550-0103 TPMS 315mzh Sensor (Pacific) Cross check for compatibility, I am pretty sure it is still the same sensor, I do now the actual toyota part number has changed ten or so times.

I can conform that adding a tpms sensor to the spare of a 2020 TRD Pro does not work. It seems to only confuse the system and none of the sensors register.
