There was someone with a 4th gen that undertook this, IIRC. it was HOURS of fab work and his net gain was about 1". I remember him being happy with the 1" but said he wouldn't do it again.

My Dad is torso-tall, and the 4Runner is the first vehicle he's owned in a while that he doesn't hit his head on the headliner. Was literally the main reason he bought it. No sunroof.

Good to know thank you. In my 2015 I also have the moonroof and find my head annoyingly close to the headliner. I'm 6'1" but I like to sit up high to see over the hood as much as possible when wheeling. When on-road, I can lower the seat some more and get more clearance because I don't need to see over the hood as much.

Not sure how to help OP. I'd be hesitant to get too involved with modifying seats, afraid I'd weaken something and have a failure in a crash.

I'm 6'5" and drive with the seat angled back pretty far for comfort and because of the moonroof. Luckily, I have monkey arms to allow that. In the passenger seat, I have to lay back even further.

When I first sat in a 4R a few months ago, it was a Limited. I couldn't get the seat to where my head wasn't touching. I was bummed. A few weeks later, I sat in an ORP, and lo and behold, I fit. I guess the seats are different to some degree?
