Anybody mount a canoe on their runner? I have a limited, without factory cross bars. Canoe is a aramid ultra light 45lb tops. Whats the best type of rack to buy here? Thule? or other? Any ideas? I did a search and couldnt even find the word canoe..come up.

When I had the factory rack I did Yakima Rail Grabbers to a round bar and then the Yakima Gunwale Brackets and two Yakima cam buckle straps for the belly of the canoes. Worked very well.

I also tied down the front using rope down to something like the Thule Hood Loop Strap but mine is black and no logo to rub, bolted to the inside of the fenders in the engine compartment factory holes. I bought some 3M clear tape, to tape the fenders and the edge of the hood where the straps would come out to prevent the paint from rubbing. This worked very well too.

The rear I would tie off with rope to the rear hitch safety chain loops.

Thanks guys, ill check out the links. For those with Yakima and or Thule was one better than the other? I have had thule in the past for bikes. They have been ok. Looks like the aero bars are about $600 here then the canoe brackets are another $200 CDN. Not cheap..but I guess better than stuffing my kevlar canoe through some poor ****ars windshield!!

Cheaper than a sunroof.... and its a boat!

I'm using the thule Aero bars to carry my 16 foot Kevlar "prospector" canoe which has quite the rocker.. The canoe weighs about 52lbs. Everything works great.

Trailer

I’m getting a trailer for my 15’ canoe today. Much easier for an old guy like me and seems safer to me. $1000 plus tax at local outdoor shop. Can carry 2

I carry a 17' Grumman on the OEM cross bars with no issues. It weights 100 + pounds as it has custom seats etc. I load/unload it using a Uhaul universal one person canoe loader.

OEM crossbars... $100... 2 cam straps...$10... don't overthink this.
