Need input: Torque for Seat Bolts and Sound Dampening
I'm working on sound dampening the floor of the truck and I need some help on logic for layout of the dampening and torque on the bolts when I reinstall seats and seat belts.
Logic for dampening:
I'm in the process of laying out the CDL and have that covered. My question is around MLV. Through various threads I've seen several people comment that the Luxury Liner Pro MLV (the product I'm using) is very thick and can make getting the carpet and panels on tricky. Additionally, it's also my understanding that the goal is 100% coverage on MLV. I'm contemplating doing nearly 100% but cutting out gaps that match the carpet. In other words, cutting gaps in circles around the places where the seats bolt to the floor and I'll probably also not go quite all the way to the edges to allow side panels in the cargo area to go on more easily. When the carpet was still in I marked the openings and also the edge of the styrofoam base in the cargo area. See pics below. Does anyone who has installed sound dampening, especially this product, have thoughts on this approach.
Torque:
I have found conflicting information on the proper torque for the bolts that hold the seats to the floor and the seatbelts to the pillars. One post was 27 ft/lb and another was 31 ft/lb. Does anyone have the detail specifically for a 5th Gen?
Loctite:
Can anyone confirm that the seat bolts and seat belt bolts use loctite blue? I see residue on the bolts after pulling them and assume that's what it is.
Thanks!
P.S. Full project write up will be posted when I'm all done.

The sounds dampening is in and front / large carpet piece is installed. Hopefully the rear cargo panels go back on tonight without a massive amount of rework.
I'll likely be installing the seats tomorrow night.

I haven't found specific details, but after my installation, I torque'd the bolts to about 25ft/lb.
As for thread locker, I don't know what Toyota has OEM, but Loctite Blue has been fine for anything bolted into the body.
You'll be fine with reinstallation. I used Dynamat, which I believe is thicker than your CDL and everything reinstalled without hassle.

personally i'd cut things like that so the seats still sat against the chassis. you're never going to notice that small section of MLV missing in a few areas

Yes, I agree - that's the route I ended up taking. The carpet fits back into all the clips. I'm working on reattaching the rear cargo panels now. The only questions left are torque for bolts and how it sounds. Hopefully the remaining panels that need to go on behave.

I concur with rheosibal, 35 seems a bit high.
They use torque spec's for assembly to make sure that people don't over or under tighten them. The last thing you want to do is damage those bolt holes. They aren't a critical rod bearing with specific clearance or high vibration components.
Probably don't even need the thread locker, but it's easy so why not.
If your seat gets that much vibration you might want to figure out why. I don't know that I've ever had a loose seat.
Don't over think this.
Me personally, I would just tighten it to close the gap (snug), make sure the seat doesn't move. Then give it a touch more, like an 32nd of a turn.

That's the torque value that was provided with the seat jackers I installed last weekend. They recommend 27 - 30ft/lbs on the bolts to the floor.

I just finished doing this. I found the same info researching as mentioned...27 for seat bolts, and 31 for the seat belt bolts.
I'm super happy with the results. My family noticed the difference as well. One thing I had to do was to shave off 1/4th" around the perimeter of the rear seat mount covers due to the thickness of the CCF and MLV. If I were to do it over, I'd use 1/16" CCF instead.
I'd also budget more for MLV tape. That stuff is awesome. I used it in the hard areas in the end. It was so much nicer than the HH-66 vinyl cement. It is faster and pliable, and not toxic like the cement. The downside is it goes fast and is expensive.
It was a lot if work, but very worth it in the end.
Now I need a new set of rear hatch struts, due to the added weight, I'm estimating at around 20lbs for the CDL, CCF, MLV, and new speakers.
