Bilstein, Dobinson, Eibach. All will be around the same price, probably $1k or so for the full kit plus labor

My X-Reas front struts in 2004 failed (left at 65K and Right at 75K). I replaced both each time of failure at check valves taking in account that I caught it early enough and both didn't leak out much of the fluid. 87K now and no problems what so ever and still have X-Reas. Each strut cost me $ 59 and about 1 hour of DIY work. If you go this route - rent spring compressor at local parts store (free). G.L.

If it was my truck I'd have the XREAS system replaced at the dealership.
I thought the whole system was like $3500 so the price they gave you is pretty good I think.

Putting in regular shocks is not going to give you the same performance as the XREAS.

This system is one of the reasons I bought the SR5 Premium.

Do people use the original limited coils with new bilstein 5100 shocks? Seems like an easy solution.

I have a terrible surprise for you Rich. Your SR5 Premium is not equipped with an XREAS suspension.

The price isn’t the problem. The problem is that it has failed with 30936 miles on the odometer and barely 3 years old.

Why would I waste my time and money replacing with the same failure prone components?

It’s probably overkill, but for roughly $1k it seems like a no brainer.

Bilstein 6112 shocks and springs upfront and 5160 in the back. Done.

Not planning to lift so I’ll just put the circlips at 1 and 3 up front.

Will be a great foundation if I decide to lift in the future.

I think he was saying that he went with the SR5P over the limited because he didn't want XREAS. Maybe?

In the front, you can get away with using the OEM coils even if you lift, but at 60K, you'd be better off just replacing them while you're installing the 5100s. I could be wrong about the limited, but this was the case for my SR5P.

The rears, you only replace if you want the rear lifted. With the 5100 rears, no aftermarket rear coils = no lift.

I'd buy the 5100s (they go for about $400 for all 4) and use the $400 from the dealer for the install. I don't think my dealer charged me more than that to swap the struts. I kept the factory coils and put in the rear shocks on my own.

That is correct. It does not have XREAS and that's one of the reasons why I bought an SR5 Premium.

The system does work. When its not working the OP was surprised by the lack of cornering ability they were accustomed to. Perhaps the OPs were damaged somehow.
Other people are getting greater mileage out of their systems.
"Normal" shocks have a life as well and the fancy ones appear to not be too much cheaper the the replacement of the XREAS.

I am the OP. Not sure what your talking about...

So far the truck is working just fine even with the leaky shock.

I have a ‘13 limited and my XREAS failed at around 92k miles. I drove it for another 3k before finally biting the bullet. I found a good deal from another member for some Fox TRD Pro take offs, and then bought new stock UCA’s and rear coils from another member to complete the kit. The limited has different rear coils if you didn’t know that. Anyway just had them installed and oh man what a difference, very smooth ride and way better on dirt as expected. I’ve had a couple Tacoma’s in the past that I alway put Icons on, but wanted to keep this truck as factory as possible.
