Ive been looking on the for sale wanted thread, but no joy on a lightly used set of takeoffs from a TRD Pro.

Whats different about the limited rear coils? No sure I understand. Ive talked to Bilstein lifts and Toytec and neither one of them mentioned it. Are there specific coils I need to look for on the rear or are you just saying I should change them out as well?

Appreciate the offer, but I think I'm done with Xreas. Not worth the hassle.

If you think you are going to keep the runner for years to come then I would suggest for now to replace the broken xres shock for 1800. Otherwise you are going to spend around 6K for a real replacement /upgrade. If you rather replace / upgrade get the camburg uppers and lowers and kings all around with a LT setup. You will be looking at 6-8k in parts alone. But the value is there.

Not trying to be a jerk, but how did you come up with that math and what will change now vs than?

Eitherway the entire setup has to be ripped out.

Already spoke with Toyota Corporate and they were not very helpful. Toyota is offering $400 as a goodwill gesture towards replacing drivers front shock, lines, accumulator, and passenger rear shock. Dealer estimated $2200 at first, but once Toyota came to the rescue, dealer is now at $1800 for the job. So $1400 out of my pocket for an obviously defective part from the factory.

As of now, I (we) haven’t noticed any degradation in handling. However, this is my wife’s daily driver and she does most of the parental duty hauling around our two amazing children.

I purchased the 4Runner because I thought it was the best mid size SUV available and had Toyota reliability behind it. I was wrong. Toyota has really let me down.

This has been beat to death on the forums and I should have known better. Xreas is failure prone.

Looking for recommendations on what to replace the Xreas suspension with. We get dirt on the tires 3 or 4 times a year, so just looking to replace with OEM quality. Not looking for a lift. Would prefer a compliant ride to off road capability.

Appreciate any input or commiserations.
  1. If you replace the XREAS with regular shocks your wife will say that it doesnt drive the same.
  2. Then you will get into a fight because you will tell her "everyone from the internet does it"
  3. She will think you are doing something unsafe or trying to kill her
  4. You will tell her "They said it's better"
  5. She will file for divorce.
  6. You will have to sell the 4Runner to pay the lawyers
  7. You wont be able to go to work because you can't drive there and you'll be fired.
  8. You'll miss child support payments and you will go to jail
  9. When you get out you will be destitute and living in a box on the street.
  10. You'll die from some random act of violence in the homeless community you are living in.
REMOVING XREAS Will Kill YOU

Limiteds have purple/orange paint codes. I suspect they're shorter.

My XREAS failed at 90k... replaced them with Bilstein 4600's (Bilstein quality, just not height adjustable). Shop reused the stock springs... no change to ride height or stance after the switchover - I measured to be sure.

Pretty sure the springs themselves are the same across all models.

How was the ride quality comparing to the xreas? More body roll or nose dive? Less? Thanks!

The overall ride quality is pretty much the same. I didn't really notice much of a difference on regular or gravel roads, and no nose-dive issues. That said, I have noticed that on undulating surfaces, the ride seems a bit less controlled. If you think about how X-REAS works, it makes sense that it would not be the same with regular shocks. All in all though, I'm pleased with how it turned out, and happy it only cost me 1/4 of what it would have to replace the X-REAS system.

I am so happy ditched mine at 50k KM. They are shit. They only ride well on extremely smooth asphalt. Anything else they are junk.

Dont both with the neat and clean removal as when you take them off they are done and cant be reused. Get some bolt cutters and cut that shit. Use a bucket and a towel for the oil..

Edit to add, I went with kings. Kept stock rear springs. The xreas I would rank a 3/10 for mixed driving. The kings are 10/10. Not cheap but awesome drive from highway to offroad. I likes hitting speed bumps at 100km/hour. Nice absorption..

Well crap...seeing this post worries me with my 2018 Limited. It's around 20k miles right now and don't have an extended warranty...going to have to look into that now if I keep XREAS

I have a 2011 Limited. My understanding is I can use SR5 takeoffs. Is that correct? Also, does 4WD matter? 2010 - 2020 years work? Thanks
