Suggestion. I would pick your tent first.
1. Size. The tent you pick for comfortable 3 person sleeping will likely hang over the front, maybe a lot. Remember any tent is rated for number of people shoulder to shoulder, so three people I would get a four person tent. A full length would give better tent support in that case. I have a full size X-Cover and it takes up most of my full length rack.
2. Aerodynamics and noise. Depending on what tent you pick some are bricks, like mine, and hard shells can be much more aerodynamic. Without having a fairing in front of the tent on a soft shell tent your gas mileage will plummet and there will be a lot of wind noise.
I even added an extended fairing that really helps. In fact it increases my mpg by 5 on the highway with the tent.
3. Bar direction. Some tents can mount to rails running front to back or side to side. But all mount to side to side rails. I had to replace my Rhino rack with a Victory because of this.
If I bought a full length today, it would be a Sherpa hands down.
