Outside temperature readout curiosity

This happens every year, when I start running the A.C.
The outside temp display readout on the dash is much lower than the actual outside temp.
When the AC is off the temp reading is spot on accurate for outside. With the AC on the temp hovers around low to mid 70’s. Today it was 92 outside and 72 inside. I’m beginning to think it is by design and switches to measuring inside temp when AC is on. I’ve never seen anything about this in the manual. I know the sensor is located under the hood somewhere near the grille but I’m beginning to think there is a 2nd one inside. I might investigate further and see if maybe the sensor is coming into contact with a freon line. I have a 2012 SR5.
Anybody else notice this?

Are you garaged? Is your garage cooler than outside temp as you pull out?

Yes but that’s not it. Today for example I ran an errand and the car sat, windows up in 92 degrees for about 30 min. I get back, start it and see the temp at about 90. Then as soon as the AC gets going good it drops to usually about 72. It’s kind of puzzling and not a big deal by any means, been doing this since 2012. Just thought I’d put it out there. Now that I think about it in winter it works fine even when I’m running heat inside doesn’t affect it. So it’s probably something cold touching the sensor. Freon line perhaps. I’ll take another closer look later.

Something's not right with yours. Mine is always outside temp + or - a few degrees.
