Need insight on tire rubbing 265/70x17

I bought these Wildpeaks when they were on sale. I have had the similar size tires before, but in different brands (just took off cooper AT3s).Never rubbed the body mount before. New tires are Wildpeaks 265/70x17 on stock wheels. They are a lot larger than the coopers were.

I have a 2" lift and SPC UCAs. I cannot find the last alignment printout, but It's now rubbing the body mounts when I turn sharp Especially when I back up.

From doing some searches around here, it seems the SPCs are a PITA to adjust for alignment people. These arms were on here when I bought this hoopty years ago.
I do remember the alignment guy telling me this was the most caster he could get, but from what I'm reading, Max caster isn't the answer. It's more of a process to find the correct formula?

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has any info that might help me figure this out.
I'll be taking it to a more "off road" oriented shop in the next couple weeks (they are booked). Aside from bringing a copy of the SPC instructions, can you guys give me some tips?

Thanks

  1. Do fender liner mod
  2. trim bumper
  3. get a bmc
  4. go to a different alignment shop and be sure to take a picture of your alignment specs for record keeping in the future

Congrats you're rub free!

Could be the caster. Still running the OE wheels?

I am running stock wheels with spacers.

The entire reason for staying with 265s was to avoid rubbing issues. But these are still pretty large tires.

Ahh could be a mix of the wheel spacers and caster. I had wildpeaks in 265 e load on stock wheels with 1.8 caster and had no rubbing issues.

The spacers definitely contribute. Since they push the wheel out away from the car, when you turn the wheels left or right they also push the wheels forward or backwards causing more risk of rubbing.

I guess I'll find out in a couple weeks after the alignment. I know there are a bazillion tire threads, just thought it was odd having a tire this size rubbing the body mount with UCAs.

Ultimately, I need to grab some wider wheels with better offset and ditch these spacers.

Thanks

spacers for sure....are they 1.25''? you may eliminate the rub with 4.0 caster.

Just as a frame of reference, when I ran SCS wheels (8 inches wide and I believe pretty significant backspace), I did rub with LT265/70R17 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws, but not on the body mount. Needed to scrap my mud flaps and do the fender liner mod, but was able to get it under control.

From what I can tell, the road to hell is paved with wheel spacers .

The 265 70 17 Wildpeak, at least the SL version, is 9" wide, it is basically a 285 when it comes to width (not height).

Using stock wheels, my driver one rubbed a little on the front fender, as with AZ Craig. I removed the mud flaps immediately anyway so no recollection on that. For the rest, as mentioned already, it has to be the lift plus alignment specs.

I ran 265/70r17 falken wildpeaks with trd pro wheels and 1.25” spacers and just needed to do some trimming on front bumper, move fender liner forward, and remove mud flaps. This was with cornfed 1” front level.

I ended up putting on 2.5/1.5 lift. Then shortly after did 17x8.5 -10 scs wheels with 285/70 wildpeaks, (no spacers) and still don’t rub body mount.

I recently added 5100s set at 1.75” lift in the front and added the 265/70/17 Wildpeaks and mine was rubbing on the driver side front fender liner at full lock while backing up. I had to take it back to the alignment shop twice and they adjusted the caster to 3.0, I believe, I can check tomorrow and updated but I no longer have the wheel run issue.

Well I ordered some FN wheels last night and will be ditching the spacers. I'll update when I get it all mounted.

I have a 2017 4Runner Limited. I had cornfed leveling kit installed and 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler Installed with Venomrex 602 17x9 wheels. The Venomrex 602s have a -12 offset. Is that what's causing my rubbing? (usually when in reverse and tire turned sharp). I see the TRD Pros run 265/70/17 from factory and I'm pretty sure they don't rub. Is that because the TRD wheels have a +4 offset? Is that my issue? Do I need to get a different set of wheels? I just bought a 2008 lifted Tacoma so I can put the Venomrex on it but don't want to necessarily if the offset isn't causing the rubbing on the 4runner.

Why the spacers? They are creating the rub problem, and give you a positive scrub radius.
