Cost for 5th gen limited front struts?

I have just turned over 200,000 mostly highway miles on my 13’ limited 4x4. Has anyone replaced their struts on a 5th gen limited.. if so how much am I looking? Dealer quoted me $1700 for two front struts (parts and labor).

Remove all the XREAS stuff and put in a pair of Bilstein 5100s for $264 or leave the X stuff alone and use Bilstein 4600 for $176.

Dealers --> $#!^

^^^^^ Agreed ^^^^

Or you can do Bilstein 6112/5160s. That's what I did and it way better (and much cheaper than XREAS).

Or you can buy my set of XREAS shocks that were taken off my Limited at 31k miles. They were taken off by a qualified mechanic using the Toyota recommended removal procedures. Not one drop of oil lost.

the dealer quoted you so much because your front left shock is linked to the right rear shock and vice-versa via a hydraulic line.

i'd do what others suggested and replace the entire system. you can get a full dobinsons setup for that price, or a full bilstein 5100 setup for about $1000

either way, you're either repairing the front shocks for $$$$ or replacing the whole system for $$

My X-REAS failed on my 03 Limited at 138,000 km (or 85,750 miles). There was a leak in the system - in the line behind the Driver’s Side Centre Control Absorber. Leak was likely caused by corrosion of the line due to road salt used up here during our Canadian winters.

Fluid that had dripped onto the driveway was the first indicator of some sort of problem. As more fluid leaked out of the system, the suspension became worse.

I removed the entire X-REAS system (too costly to replace), and installed the standard SR5 suspension (to keep it relatively stock).

In hindsight, I might have sourced a quality aftermarket shock that was less expensive than the OEM Toyota shocks - but I did not have the luxury of having time to "shock shop" due to the nature of the X-REAS system failure.

These links/threads might help:

At least now I'll be better prepared if/when my X-REAS goes on my 2011 Limited.
