Oil filter retainer clip

Good evening,

I was wondering if anyone has or can find a part number for the oil filter retaining clip for a 2015 4Runner? I’ve searched here, google, multiple parts distributors with no luck. I called the dealer. However, the PN he gave me doesn’t list my make and model as compatible. Any help is very much appreciated.

I can only assume that when I upgraded to the metal housing that I don't have this part anymore. And it's not needed. Otherwise... uh oh.............

I upgraded to the metal housing, no clip. Tighten with a torque wrench to 18 ft-lb.

Awesome,

I’ve seen a couple of aluminum filter bowls. Is everyone buying the same one? Do they all require a modification to the perforated tube? Looking for a recommendation so I can buy what works lol.

Lemme guess, it went SPROING across your garage and is now MIA?

Mine tried to do that but I eventually found it. I'd have no qualms running without it though, it's more of an indicator than a retainer.

I agree that it could be more of an indicator. It’s like safety wiring bolts that are torqued to 260 foot lbs. if the bolt breaks 260’lbs. that wires not going to help lol. No, it’s my wife’s car. She’d been letting the dealer do the free oil changes that I despise. God only knows how long the clips been gone. I just wanted one lol. I’m looking for an aluminum filter bowl now. I guess one of the ones on Amazon will work.

In a post made a few years back it was shown to be a retainer and not an indicator. The filter housing can only be tightened so much once it hits the upper end. Be it plastic OEM or the metal one used on earlier 2GR-FE engines, the housing will only go up so far.
I find the clip to be a nuisance when using most all of the different oil filter housing removal tools made for this engine.
Get rid of it.

That clip is not needed. Here’s a huge oil change thread with instructions, tool, and tips. Here’s one posting about the metal housing.

Interesting. Mine had no clip when I did the first oil change. Mine is a 2019, did they stop putting it on at some point?
