I’m thinking about fogs but may go with a whole housing replacement. My only concern with the LEDs is taking the t4r up to the snow, I’ve heard they don’t do well on snowy nights.... but I live in the desert so not an issue until I go looking for it

Pretty much how the morimoto 2stroke bulbs were in my 4R. At night, when clear, they were great. In the rain, total shite. I had to drive through the remnants of a hurricane at night and It was horrible. In the rain .they light up road signs great, just not the road itself so much.

No need to sugar coat it, some people here are fanatical know-it-alls, yet often ignorant. One guy here thinks he is the photon whisperer and shits on anything lighting related unless it’s something from his own setup.

There are other dickless buffoons who do the same on other topics. I had two of these morons try to share their “knowledge,” that they gained from their university of phoenix degree in acoustics, to tell me things I already know about exhaust. They most likely face-timed each other and took turns slamming their micro sized genitalia in a closet door after their “pwnage.”

I digress, your last line was the best advice to anyone, it’s their choice. Go with what you want.

Part of the reason for this is that the "cooler" color temperature that LED lights put out (6000K and above) tends to be more blue. Blue light wavelengths are very short in comparison to warmer white and yellow headlights, giving them the tendency to refract and reflect light back in your eyes. Longer wavelength light penetrates fog and other inclement weather much better. There's no reason I can tell that OEM's use this blue tinted LED lights, other than looking cool and modern.

But at least Jeep is using projectors designed specifically for LED emitters. I wholly do NOT RECOMMEND using those goofball LED bulbs shaped like halogen lights. They are unequivocally bad. The emitters on the chip blade can't shrink down enough to properly emulate a halogen filament (and therefore be used to focus light in the projector). I don't care how good their marketing is, they cannot beat physics.

If you want a snow-worthy LED fog replacement (not an LED bulb, I mean a whole new light housing) look no further than the SS3 pro by Diode Dynamics. Not only do they run hot enough to clear snow, they're the best fog light by a mile.

First time I’ve heard of this brand.

Interesting. No fans or fins to disperse heat....wonder how they accomplish what others don’t seem able to?

Looks like a direct swap of existing bulbs.....am I correct?

Are you looking at the right product?

4Runner Headlights, Custom Made Low Beam, LED Bulbs|LASFIT - Lasfit Auto Lighting

They have a big fan and heat sink with a full dust cap swap that integrates it better into the 4Runner housing.

I just did the H9 and 9011 conversion yesterday.

Trimming the bulbs took all of 10 - 15 minutes, taking my time and all.

Replacing the bulbs takes about 5 minutes, even with my shrek hands.

I'm very happy with the upgrade.

To the OP, when people say modify, it's as simple as clipping off a tab. It's really no big deal.

Those are... junk. Don't spend $200 on LED bulbs. See my response to them in another thread here:
https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3504433-post43291.html

If you want to spend money (more than $7 per bulb) get some auxiliary high beam lights. Several companies make J581 compliant, street-legal (high beam only) lights: KC HiLiTES, Diode Dynamics, Rigid, etc.

I recommend the pro SS3 by Diode Dynamics. They are excellent.

No worries, I am well read and that's a large part of the reason I still have my stock halogens in my truck (along with never swapping over to LED H11s on my 2016).

I did have DDM Tuning Sabre Pro's in my high beams in my previous 4Runner and think they were worth the money (and plan on swapping the highs likely over to Xenon Depot's 9005s that have the anti flicker harness available).

I just took a look and the SDHQ SwitchPro 9100 mount is ready for 2020s:

'20-Current Toyota 4Runner SDHQ Built Switch-Pros Power Module Mount

Looks like it's time to just do a full auxiliary lighting upgrade (planning on ditch lights and a behind grill light bar probably).

I had the XD setup. As far as LED bulbs go, they at least made the effort to make them compatible with the DRL mode. Nothing more silly than seeing someone buzzing their high beams at full blast during the day. You're right in that the beam pattern/control is not as critical on the high beam, so focus (or lack thereof) doesn't matter as much. I believe they are brighter than stock, but the Philips 9011 halogens are brighter still. I got rid of my XD bulbs because it seemed like an odd mix with the halogens in the low beams.

Nice. I have their Bussmann box mount, haven't put it in yet but will soon. Right now I'm making do with a Blue Sea fuse box and some external relays, but I really look forward to cleaning it up soon. SDHQ makes great stuff.

There's something about 5K to 6K light I really like for the DRL (pure visual taste). The Sabre Pro's actually did dim significantly in the DRL but had ever so slight of a hyperflash. I just drove around with it like that. It could be a bit weird in low lighting situations though still if you had not switched over to your headlights when you probably should have (people would think they were still your brights).

I had a guy freak out one day and brake job me and then pull in behind me with his high beams on. I ended up getting behind him and turning on my full highs then, hehe. I bet he didn't like that .

I have thought about trying the 9011 swap with a PIAA super white bulb (rated around 4200K). May get away from the yellow color spectrum enough to give me the look I want. I'll see though, may just give the XD setup a try.

Well, I guess you taught him a lesson!
But really, if someone was so affected by your lights that he pulled that maneuver, maybe you should reconsider your setup.

If you saw the person who did it you wouldn't feel that way, haha. Not going to comment further than that so this doesn't go out of control...

The weirdest story I heard was a friend of mine with a 4Runner and the stock halogen 9005 bulbs had a motorcyclist freak out on him one morning claiming his DRLs were highs. To this day I don't understand that one.
