does exhaust do anything for 4runners?
does exhaust system add any power, I don't really care if its like 3 hp or something but I want the 4runner a little faster, I am not after sound but any gains is gains. I know they sell superchargers but I am not ready to install the supercharger on my truck yet and I was wondering if adding the exhaust system like the trd exhaust or the magnaflow #15145 catback system will do any good, also well the 2013 4runner work with the trd exhaust? Part number is PTR03-89200 magnaflow: MagnaFlow Toyota 4Runner Street Series Cat-Back Performance Exhaust System borla: 4Runner/ Land Cruiser Prado 2010-2020 Cat-Back Exhaust Touring part # 140379

Noise maker on its own
Once you add an intake, tune, and y pipe then it feels a bit peppier... But the $ to gains ratio is horrible

Pretty much sums things up.

Yes and no. TRD says it's more power/torque, but it's not quantified with numbers.
TRD - Performance Air Intakes
Quote:
TRD exhaust systems reduce back pressure by getting burnt gasses out of the engine and exhaust system efficiently, therefore creating additional power output.
|
TRD - Exhaust
Quote:
The intake design works with the factory ECU and emissions system and is 50-State Emissions Legal. These systems have been dyno tested and deliver an increase in both horsepower and torque.
|
Here is another thread
TRD Intake and Exhaust
Everyone has a different opinion. The reality is, even at +15 HP, your 0-60 would still suck.
I did add Sprintbooster and it's definitely more snappy on the throttle response. Not faster, just better response.

I added the Borla cat-back and AFE intake and I noticed immediate get up and go. My truck is a lot more peppy and responsive because it can breathe better. I'm happy with it

Same, but I also added a URD MAF which really helped the other two reach their potential. It is not a 0-60 thing for me at all. But what I really notice was a stronger pull on the highway with less shifting. With and without a trailer.
Though I must say when I have to punch it to get on the highway it really gets up and goes more than I would have thought.
IDK, maybe living at altitude it makes a bigger impact for me. Heck I would like more air as well sometimes!

This is the objective 1GR-FE discussion I’ve come to love here:
Pros:
“Peppy”
“Really gets up and goes”
Cons:
“Minimal pep”
With in-depth analysis like this why go anywhere else?
Seriously though I get this isn’t a sports car that garners a lot of aftermarket engine tuning demand and therefore a lot of independent testing by performance shops but hell you’d think there’d be something?
It’s a little surprising that basic breather mods and a proper tune can’t produce enough of a result on what has to be a choked up 4.0L motor to warrant the effort.
Am I the a-hole just overlooking the thread full of dyno charts and mod lists or is it really just 4500 different threads like this?

A pedal commander will have you believing it picked up 25 HP as it just runs so much better. The Computer will negate any exhaust changes so don't bother.

For the same money as an upgraded exhaust system, it looks like Vivid Racing’s tune will probably produce way more power. Their dyno results show gains of around 25-30whp for about $700.
The only thread on it here devolved into the typical dipshit fest.
