It will compete against the highlander at best.

4runner will remain in its own class.

Rubicon will still be off road king.
wrong....

front and rear lockers. only ifs in the front. optional manual. this thing is going to run circles around the 4runner more likely than not in all areas but cargo room and longterm reliability

The 'Big' Bronco has a solid rear and probably IFS front, just like the 4R.

Maybe. But without an available factory regear it isn't that great of a feature.

I have only seen pictures of the baby bronco. Saw some photos of the big bronco and it does look to have a solid rear axle. Good for them. Hopefully it is competitive with the 4runner so we can get some changes from toyota.

It will not be in the same class as the Rubicon though. Nothing unmodified and sold in the US today can go where a stock Rubicon can without major body damage.

I didn't see pictures of the big bronco until yesterday.

Depends on the approach, break over, and departure angles too.

Crawl control and a-trac on the 4runner will put it pretty close to a locked front bronco.

Also how wide the big bronco will be.

If Ford made the big bronco with the abilty to fit 37s stock and it is relatively the same size of a 4runner then yeah it will run circles around the 4runner.

the only deal breaker in my mind would be if they dont offer boosted v6s and stick with the 2.3l. It doesnt sound like that will be the case though.

Not a brand loyalist by any means. I'm stoked to see what Ford can offer with the new Bronco.

I need to clear the home projects from my plate and get to work on the body restoration of my ‘73 Bronco.

My assumption has been that the 4 door will end up very close to a JL Wrangler Unlimited in size. Part of the reason I dumped my 2012 JK Unlimited and went to a 4Runner was the increased cargo volume the 4Runner gives versus a Wrangler. It's going to be really interesting to see the ultimate specs though.

My guess is the Bronco will be able to take 33s stock and probably 35s with minimal drama. I'll be really surprised if it can take 37s stock. Could also have a scenario where you can fit them, but are setting up for trouble.

Running 37s on a JK without some major drive train upgrades was always viewed as a disaster waiting to happen in the Jeep community. Plenty of folks did it to mall crawl, but it was definitely not robust. I'm not sure if the JL is a bit better in this regard or not since I have not been paying attention.

My prediction Bronco will be more capable than 4Runner Pro due mainly to clearance and approach and departure angles. No where’s near quality. As for competing with the Wrangler Rubicon; no way without a solid front axle. The Bronco will do some stupid mall crawler dance as the Wrangler passes by it in rock/techy sections.

And hopefully after the Bronco outperforms the 4Runner Toyota will listen to what there customers want before they loose more market share. Jeep must be licking their chops seeing what Ford is bringing to an off road battle.

Not a big fan of the looks, but I'll wait and see what the long term reliability and the ease of 'customobility' is after the first couple of years.
