Rear Hatch Window Woes

When it rains it pours. Not only did I crack my front windshield, having radio gremlins, SRS light is on, need to replace front shocks and figure out the shaky steering wheel issue. Seems as if this past weekend while out at the lake my rear window quit working. It would not roll all the way up and would roll back down automatically. I was able to force the window up manually after removing the panel and disconnecting the switch for now. But would like to get this foxed. Luckily I do have an extended warranty that was free with vehicle purchase. But the dealers are over an hour from me. Any thread/videos/tips on how to troubleshoot and repair this issue? Not something I am very familiar with. Not to mention there is not not much area to work with here and would rather not bust the glass. thanks.

Check to see if something is blocking the window frame if debris clogs the flow it will reverse down It might be for child safety

from the manual; "when the power back window does not close properly":

...initialize the function by performing the following procedure:

1. hold the power back window switch in the one-touch closing position. Continue holding the switch for a further 6 seconds after the window has closed.

2. hold the power back window switch in the one-touch opening position. Continue holding the switch for a further 2 seconds after the window has opened.

3. hold the power back window switch in the one-touch closing position once again. Continue holding the switch for a further 2 seconds after the window has closed.

if you release the switch while the window is moving, start again from the beginning.

if the window continues to close but then reopen slightly after performing the above procedure correctly, have the vehicle inspected by your toyota dealer

with the extended warranty, I'm curious, how many things need to be wrong before you take it to the dealer?

Difficult when your not only a disabled veteran, retired, only vehicle and the dealer is over an hour each way. Not really can I leave the vehicle overnight or even afford a rental vehicle. So I do most if not all that I can myself. If I cannot fond a simple solution then indeed I would have to take it in. Other issues where nothing I really would ave noticed except a crash and non deployment of the drivers airbag. With the rear window inop it is more than an inconvenience when I drive around with my service animal in the back. But to ask such a question is weirdly funny to me. As everyone has their own circumstances. it may be quite an easy thing for you to just go to the dealer. But at least in mine it become more than a chore and it only compounds from there. Seeing the forest theough the trees.

Anyways thanks for the responses Ill go through the other thread and see if anythings there. Ill double check to see if I can see anything in the tracks I did look and honestly felt as of the window came off track a bit.. dunno for sure In the end the dealer maybe my only choice. Worst thing is that I have been wanting to move to a new vehicle platform within the next year or so. Payed off and like being able to save up extra for mods on next vehicle. I just hope I have the patience to just go through the motions and get it back to normal and have time to follow the path I want.. not to give in and say f it and just go buy a new truck,

Your dealer should give you a loaner or courtesy car. You shouldn’t need to pay for a rental car.

My dealer is also 1.5 hours away. Nearest stop light is 40 miles away. That is one of the joys of living in the sticks.

I'd get an early appointment = 9am with the dealer (use their website to setup the appointment) and sit and wait for them to fix it.

I know how you feel. My Toyota dealer is a bit over an hour away, but they have a Ford dealership closer.
Their Ford dealership is 20 minutes away, at the closest signal lights.
Fortunately we have several vehicles as backup for situations like this.
I really hope OP gets it working.

Many extended warranties have provisions allowing you to take the vehicle to any certified shop if it is not practical to go to the dealer. Check into that.

Funny how a simple question has to be so dramatic.

I guess every retired, disabled, low on cash, country living, MOS handles situations differently.

and in case no one said it today, we all thank you for your service.

Okie dokey if you say so. Weird but have a good day. Poster who is supposedly better than others. Oh no thank you for your service. Guess you must have your shit together and I dont? So funny how our perspectives are much different on things.

Pretell Why would one drive 2hours cash strapped nothing to do with it. In only vehicle if one can fix it in the comfort of their driveway?

this would be a good thing if they did. Never have been offered by dealer. But if I have to end up taking it in.I may push this and find a dealer willing to do so

An option for sure. Again get compounded. Have service dog will travel. Not something easy to sit around for. Another poster mentioned that I should push the loaner vehicle. If this cant be done in driveway and I have to go to the dealer Ill try this route instead.

Earlier someone said that the manual said...

Is there an online set of manuals somewhere?
