How do you deal with the dogs and their hair?

I picked up my new Red Trail Edition 4Runner on Saturday. That same night I also had to transport my shedding dog about 30 minutes down the road. I put the back seats down, but there is just hair all over the place back there.

What do y'all use to combat the what seems to be constant shedding? My roommate has a husky liner in the back of his wrangler, but he tells me hair still gets underneath it from his dog (doesn't shed near as much as my dog).

I'm thinking a simple sheet laid down in the back will help, but just want to hear what it is you all use!

I've put down the Canvasback cargo liner in black and one of those extra large beach towels over it. While its probably impossible to contain all the dog hair, it sure does help with drool and and scuff marks from my two dogs moving around back there, especially since I have to have both seats down. I was aiming more towards protection, rather then shedding prevention however.

Small vacuum mod?

+1 for Canvasback and beach towel. My Catahoula sheds like a...well, dog in spring. White hair everywhere. I just try to vacuum it twice a month or so. I also try remember it's a truck that I bought for stuff like muddy mtn bikes, dog hair and surf wax.
Shaddup conscience! I remember how much it cost! I'm gonna have fun in my new Toyota!

Never heard of canvasback. Thank you for the recommendation!

My first purchase was going to be some sliders, but now after the first trip with the dog I think I have changed my mind!

I just run both of mine in two large crates side by side in the trunk area and don't even worry about it. For the most part their hair (and dirt, mud, wet) stay back there, and they're safer and secure in the event of an accident. Have a 67lb and a 55lb German Shorthaired Pointer.

This thread's gonna blow up...
In my experience, what helps the most is to approach the problem from the source: the dog. Frequent brushing of the dog is the best way to reduce the amount of hair that gets in the vehicle. I use a rubber curry comb on my lab and pug and it works well. Bathing 1-2/month will also get a lot of hair off of them.
I've used products like the canvasback and they certainly help. Even just towels, sheets, and blankets help. But I'm sure you guys have experienced the dog hair blizzard that occurs when you roll the windows down while driving. At that point, the freaking hair is everywhere.

I have both a red TE and a shedding dog. +2 or +3 (lost count) on the canvas back covers. They are the only supplier I found with a solution for the sliding tray. I also have Wet Okole seat covers on front and rear seats. The dog hair doesn't penetrate and get stuck in the covers they way it does in the factory TE seats.

As for cleaning up the hair, try using packing tape - the clear stuff used to seal boxes. That's about all I have found that pulls the hairs out of the seats and carpet.

No need for it in the truck, but we use this all over our house for the cats.

very happy with how it works on the couch and the beds. My Maincoon cat is the size of a small dog, so the hair is about the same.

I concur, simplest solution is the best and when they're all shaved down your wife can dress them up in cute outfits! You'll be the talk of the town!

But yeah, the Canvas back works well, Martha Stuart went on CarTalk and said she recommends using large beach towels, but basically the same concept.

I have two hybrid dogs (wolf/husky) I have dog mat down to help the issue, but you will never be totally hair free. I find that when I clean the car a little spritz of febreeze and a scrub brush pull it all up quick and easy and your car smells fresh too

I've heard strapping the dog carrier to the roof on long road trips is very presidential.
