Reset TPMS Sensors

Does Carista reset TPMS?

I got new wheels w/ their own TPMS put on at a local shop and they scanned them when they installed them, but said they were having issues w/ one of the sensors not reading on their scanner. But I had no codes until ~60 miles, so I didn’t think much about it. Sold the stock wheels prior w/ the stock TPMS in them, did not think about it being an issue.
Took the Runner in for 20k mile check and the dealer wanted to charge $130 to run a full diagnostic to reset the sensors w/ the caveat it might not work. Sounds ridiculous.

Am I mistaken on the complication of resetting TPMS? Is there some secret like pumping the brake 3 times?

I have a Carista, and I don't recall seeing that as a setting. If I find it again... and I know it's around here someplace... before anybody gives you an authoritative answer I will check and let you know.

I think the reset procedure differs depending on the model year. I read that the 2020 model (which I have) has some different software programming that independent shops didn't get until early 2020 (but they should have them now). So your local (or national chain) tire shop might be a cheaper option if they have the software now. A whole shop hour for this procedure sounds high.

If you find you do need to replace a sensor, I went with the ones from Tire Rack (Replacement Hardware 315MHz Tire Pressure Sensor) for $42. Not as cheap as some seen on EBay, but less expensive than dealership. And with TireRack I knew that if there were an issue they would deal with it.

Your year might be the same, but you can check here:
https://www.tirerack.com/content/tir...ries/tpms.html

I had the install of new wheels & tires & sensors (that I purchased elsewhere) bundled in when we made the purchase. That way I kept the originals fully intact. I pushed for, and received, a full diagnostic print-out that showed all the sensors. I believe but haven't tried, that I could swap out wheel sets, and the car would recognize the old sensors. It seems to have enough memory for two sets.

I am curious about Carista, been looking at it for a while. I did send them a note asking, so I’ll wait for the reply.

Thanks. I called tire rack and they are sending me a new sensor for free since that is who I purchased through. Went to a couple local shops and they checked for free and reprogrammed, each showing the same sensor as not readable.

Crazy how much the dealer wants to charge, I have not been impressed with their knowledge. I just have to find that one guy that works there that knows what he is talking about.

I don't see anything for reset of TPMS in Carista. You can see sensor numbers and pressure (but no temperature). No options to do anything with the TPMS system, other than to share the list of sensors by SMS or email.

Pay no attention to the cracked screen

I have had a Carista since I bought this truck and it only reads (no other functions AFAIK) on newer Toyotas. Carista is great for a quick lock or window function change and well worth the price of admission but there are better/faster Bluetooth OBDII readers out, obvisouly for more money.

Man TPMS tools are such a racket. You need to use either TechStream + a J2534 compatible OBDII cable or and I have one of these too, a ATEQ VT31 TPMS (I know this will activate new sensors, not sure it will reset them) or similar tool.

FYI Those minivci pieces of shit on Amazon/ebay are totally hit-and-miss. I finally bought a Tactrix, I just reset for my summer wheel set, zero issues...
