New Rig already wanting new tires.
I am new to the world of 4runners. I picked up a new trd off-road a couple of weeks ago and now I have 400 miles on it and I’m already wanting new tires! I have added 20% ceramic tint all the way around and xpeled the hood and front bumper so I spent 750 on that hope that wasn’t to much . The grand trek at20 look pretty wimpy and I need some better tires for light off-roading plus I’ll only put around 5k miles on my tires a year. I’m torn between ko2 207 a tire and the Falken wildpeak at3w 125 a tire. 80 percent hwy driving the rest dirt roads, pastures, and maybe a trip to Moab this year. I open to opinions and ideas. I have the ko2’s on my 2016 and they were hard to balance. Thanks for the help.

Congrats! Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with either tire. My son has worked at Discount Tire for years, and he tells me that the BFG group is pretty steadfast. The Wildpeaks have been selling like hotcakes though, and those running them are happy with them. I have run BFGs in the past and am running at set of 275/70/17 on my '19 Limited. There are a lot of threads/comments on tires within this forum, read away if you like.

I was in a similar position with my 2020 ORP last month. Pricing was within $10 per tire for Falken, BFG and Ridge Grapplers, so I went with KO2 load C’s.
At $125, I’d have a hard time not buying the Falkens.

If you plan a lift in the future, don't buy tires until you do. You may want to go bigger.

Thanks I’m going to keep this one stock for at least a year or two, at least I’m going to try ! I have a leveled f150fx4 with big tires! I guess the flakes will be a big improvement over the Dunlop’s ?

I have done a ton of research on this as well. I think I am leaning towards the Falken 275/70/17's in C load as I am doing a Bilstein 6112/5160 lift. If I was staying stock I'd go for the Falken p-metric's to try them out, especially at that price.
That being said, I have not yet owned the Falken's and the BFG's have always worked as advertised on my previous vehicles.

Opinions vary on every single tire good and bad. Most of the reputable brands will be good tires. I personally have the KO2s in C-load, they work and haven't let me down on 4x4 roads but I am not a fan of the wear and the noise as they get older. But others love them. It might be a benefit though if you wait until Black Friday as the sales are usually really good.

lol, I lasted 500 miles (that's what she said!). I picked up a set of used TRD Pro wheels with Nitto Ridge Grapplers to satisfy my needs for now. I love how the OEM look but can't understand why they made the Pro wheels only 7" wide. I'll get a set of proper wheels in the future. It's one of the easiest things to change.

I drove from the dealership to the tire store when I picked up my 4R. BFG's weren't in stock, I went with the General Grabber ATX's and I'm a big fan of them.

I've had BFG,s and Grabbers on Jeep Grand Cherokees and liked the Grabbers more. They are really good tires. That said, I have Falkens on my Runner and am really happy with them. There are complaints of balancing problems with just about every tire I've seen people get so I think it's a crap shoot as far as that goes. The 4Runners seem very sensitive about balancing. I'd go with P rated Falkens for the relatively small amount of off roading you do.

I'm in the same situation. Just picked up my 2020 ORP a little over a month ago and have been going back an forth on tires. I have it scheduled already to do a lift and so I'm going to be going up to 285/70/17 and decided to go with the K02 C.

I drove the stock tires in rain, mud, snow, dirt, etc. for 70,000 miles with no issues at all. Went to LTX/MS2 and didnt like them, they seemed to attract nails and debris. Been running KO2 for the last 50k and like them pretty well. Advice on waiting until you lift, if doing so, is spot on in case you want to go bigger. Also, getting things balanced right is critical to keep her smooth. Find a good balancing shop. For me, toyota runs a buy 3 get 1 free sale that I hit when buying tires and they seem to know how to balance them without issues.

Have you considered adding a second set? Keep the existing for road use, and get some aggressive tires like MT for off-road trips.
People sell OEM rims for pretty cheap... might be another option to consider.
Then again, if you plan on lifting in a couple years, you might as well just burn up what you got and get some value out of them.

ko2 do not have good wet traction.. get michelin defender LTX if you want a better performing highway tire and its plenty capable off road as well.. it also comes in P and LT flavor if you need the extra oomph.. LT does however add about 8-10lbs to the tire weight.. but they look boring if that matters to you

Well pulled the trigger on some stock sized falken Wild-peak at3w’s. Wow what a difference it makes in the look of the truck! Alittle more road noice as to be expected with the aggressive tread. Tires ride smoother then stock, must have had a factory Dunlop out of balance. The best part is these tires are made in the USA,589 out the door. Thanks for all of the help guys.
