Just curious, but aside from it not locking out when driving what are the advantages of this over the stock 2020 navigation head unit?

I’m debating on a new vs used 4Runner and was planning on sticking with the factory navigation if I bought a 2020. I’d be curious to hear your point of view though since it’s obvious you spent a lot of time on it. I’m not sure if that was the only way to get the audio set up you wanted.

Also, have you ever thought of painting the interior trim black around the nav unit in your 4Runner since the install is complete? That would look sweet.

We'll see if anything positive comes of it.
That's awesome. Hopefully this paves the way for smoother installs for those who follow.

Appreciate the posting of this process. Just curious though about functionality of accessing menu items on your new head unit vs OEM. Can you still access all the menu items using the maestro and new head unit?

What kits did you use?

First off, thanks for the walk through and warnings/troubles you had along the way.

Do you have a list of the Maestro kits you used for this? Want to make sure I am getting the right parts...

I also ordered the Metra dash kit as it is black which will match my dash. I will let you know if I run into the same issues. Unfortunately, I think I will as the kit is for 2010+ models, not 2020 specific models.

Get on Maestro's website and it'll list everything you need. And as an update, Scosche told me they have no plans to update their kit to 2020. I assume Metra's will not fit either, so be prepared for the mods at the beginning of this thread.

Have you ran into any issues with the saftey systems not working after you installed the radio, mostly collision warnings?

Did you have better luck with the Metra kit? Looking at moving my Kenwood HU over from my Tundra to a 21 4Runner.

Crazy but awesome installation. Question... I just picked up a 2021 TRD OR Premium - 8 speaker system with Nav. You mentioned you went with all Infinity speakers I was looking at using Infinity Kappa 62IX 6-1/2's in the rear doors and hatch and Infinity Kappa 693M 6x9" in the front doors. Crutchfield says they don't fit. I was hoping you used the Kappa line in your install and if so did you need to modify anything?

All Kappas in my install. The reason Crutchfield says nothing fits 2020+ 4Runners is that, as you can tell, the manufacturers have not made anything specific to our trucks yet. The install kits are a mess and don't fit. So I think Crutchfield is not comfortable recommending anything until things improve.

You don’t have to. I kept my 2021 headunit. All you need is a dsp. Oem eq curve is terrible. Once you flatten and sum the signal you have clean signal to work with
