I can't attest for the problems people are having with the gen 1's but I've been running these for almost 3 months now with absolutely 0 issues. Based on the pictures of the light output of the gen 1's and my experience with the gen 2's they have significantly fixed their side light output issue. And once these are aimed appropriately they are so much better than my previous HID kit in the stock housings.

These have a very nice cutoff, if aimed correctly you shouldn't at all. I've aimed mine up and still haven't had a single person flash me yet.

Other drivers are morons. They'll flash their brights when driving our other cars and those are with stock LED headlights that have never been touched! They soon realize when they get brights back in their face.

But no, they haven't.. yet. The throw on these lights as aimed is no different than the pattern on my factory headlights in the GTR. They light up what they should and cutoff where they shouldn't.

Ok...just installed my new morimotos gen 2s today and the difference is literally night and day!!! Easy install other than working around my full steel bumper with grill tubework.

The bad is that my passenger side DRL doesn't turn on under the DRL setting on my switch. It only flashes when I plug in the supplied DRL harness, but does work as normal when headlights are on at night. Driver side works as expected. Kind of a bummer cuz I'm gonna have to take it apart again for the R&R.

Questions I have and not sure where to ask is so I'll start in this thread:

1) Anyone encounter this situation before?
2) My maggie has a required fuse strap powered by that same injector fuse for the pump, do you think that could be a possible culprit having three things loaded there? (I guess I'll have to try that out tomorrow since it just popped into my head as a possibility or at least something unanticipated for before the install cuz I had forgotten about it. )

Thanks!

DRL wont work if the parking brake is engaged. Make sure is disengage

Both of my Gen 1 headlights have the typical corner LED failure now. This makes 4 headlights in just over one year. I reached out to Xenon Depot about replacing them with Gen 2 lights. I'll report back with their response. I love these headlights, but the Gen 1s have a massive failure. I suppose I will reach out to Morimoto directly if Xenon Depot refuses the upgrade with the warranty claim. They have taken care of me so far, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Xenon Depot, once again, warrantied both headlights without fuss. They told me that Gen 1 headlights are no longer being sent out for replacements, and that mine would be Gen 2 units. I am hopeful that the Gen 2 units fixed the corner LED failure that I experienced 4 times.

I am very happy with the Gen two units. No complaints. I’m hopeful that the led failure was addressed as well.

The new Gen2 DRL harness/fuse tap comes with 2x 10A fuses whereas the older harness was 1x 10A and 1x 3A. I didn't feel like running the new DRL harness as they looked identical so I just swapped out the 3A with the 10A fuse. Although I feel like moving the fuse tap over to the injector slot could create a stalled motor situation if the fuse(s) go out, that's what the manual calls for. Not sure of the reasoning behind this change but I'll take it up with Morimoto if my fears come true.
How have these been working for you? Have you had any issues like the battery dying or the fuel pump shutting off?
Where did you plug in the harness in the fuse box?

I ask because there is a pair of Gen 1s that I am working with and I have tried everything (from forums and Morimoto themselves) and cannot get the DRLs to work. When in the heated mirror slot they worked for awhile but killed the battery twice. Then tried it where there were two 10A fuses in the harness, plugged it into the INJ slot, the DRLs worked but while going up hill on the interstate with the DRLs on it caused the fuel pump to shut off...so that was not fun at all.

A replacement Gen 2 set is being shipped out and just wanted to see how they had been working for you, if you had any issues I should be aware of before I put them in.

Thanks!

Hi!
Where did you plug in the harness for the DRLs in the fuse box? Heated Mirror? INJ?
Could you get the DRLs to work without a problem?

I know the instructions say to use the INJ, but I don't want to do that because do not want to mess with the fuel pump. On the Gen 1s while the harness with two 10A fuses was plugged in the INJ, the fuel pump gave out while going up hill with the DRLs on. Do not want that experience again.

Also, with the Gen 1s had the battery die twice while the harness was in the Heated Mirror slot.

Some Gen 2s are on the way, so just seeing how they are doing for everyone before the install.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about the issues. Other than the DRL LEDs going out on the Gen1 like most have experienced, I didn't have any other issues. The Gen2 units worked great for the few months they were installed.

We sold the 4R back in April so I don't have any feedback beyond that. I begrudgingly plugged the DRL into the injector slot because of the exact scenario you experienced. If there was some issue that caused the DRL to short or overload the circuit, your fuel system is getting cut which is not fun in any type of situation. That change made no sense to me but I'm sure Morimoto would have something to say if I didn't do as they instructed in the case of a warranty claim. In hindsight, I would just keep it in the mirror heater slot and to prevent a potentially dangerous scenario if fuel pump goes out. A battery jump is usually no big deal in the case of a drain issue.

It sounds like there was something majorly wrong with the gen1s that failed on your 4r if it caused both the fuel pump and battery drain. Maybe they're on the way out and something is going on with the circuit causing excessive draw or shorting somewhere. Good luck and keep us posted.

Are there anymore updates from those of you running the Gen2’s? Anymore issues? I am contemplating getting these and was also wondering about the high-beam performance? Do they have good range/distance? Are they bright enough?

From a few of the pics, it looks like the new Gen2’s even eliminate the need for fog light upgrades…

Lastly, are there any other options out there that put as much, or more, light on the road as these?

I just pulled the trigger on these along with some Diode Dynamics SS3 max fogs. Currently on their way to me. Here's a pretty good review I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tG80YViTDUo

Once I get them installed and adjusted I'll try and post feedback.
