Undercarriage coating Chicago land

Anyone have any recommendations for a shop in the Chicago area that does undercarriage coating specifically looking at fluid film.

Buy three or four cans and go to town on it your self, you will be happy that you saved lots of money, and you will be able to coat everything in sight.. No need to pay someone else. I use to do it to my Tacoma doesn’t take long just be sure to wear old clothes ..

Did you buy the air gun and attachment 360 wand? Or just the regular can.

I'd like to know this as well. New to the area, having moved from Texas a couple of months ago. Would love to do it myself but parking at a good spot is a challenge in my apartment.

I bought the gun with wands from wool wax a while ago and use it with fluid film.

Heat up the fluid film or leave it out on a hot driveway before application.

Woolwax(R) "Pro" Undercoating Gun

I use a small 6 gallon pancake compressor set at 75-80 psi and it works well, I only need to wait a short time if the compressor needs to catch up.

Fluid film has given me the best results over the years on different trucks. I usually hit the internal parts of the frame I can snake the wand into sometime in the summer and then the exterior of the frame before winter.

Like others have said, wear old clothes.

Warning, it will smell for a few days after. Especially after driving. No need for concern if you smell it, definitely depending on your parking situation.

Undercoating usually holds water and peels. I use marine enamel paint. Brush roll or spray it . Lasts for years. Even though winter with salted roads. Takes a while to dry but worth it.

I don't really consider fluid film a typical undercoating like you would get from a dealer.

Check out some reviews of Fluid Film on youtube, etc....really good stuff in my opinion.

Prior to coating my trucks I will normally hit frame welds with POR 15 and let it dry, then apply fluid film.

Thanks for the help. Did you cover or put something down on your driveway or does it wash away really easily.

I also used the fluid film spray gun kit. I've never had any problems with overspray or dripping. This stuff is pretty thick and sticky.

If you did need to clean up, any degreaser should do (such as Simple Green).

And yes, wear old clothes.

Check out Wool Wax.

I started using Fluid Film but was frustrated with how quickly it washed off, especially at the car wash. Then I tried Wool Wax - it's very similar to Fluid Film but is much thicker so it stays in place much longer than Fluid Film. It has also been de-scented to it doesn't have the lanolin smell. Price-wise, I think a gallon of Wool Wax is a few bucks more than Fluid Film, but the fact that it lasts longer makes up for the cost difference.

What part of Chicago are you in? The closest shop is either in Green Bay or Indiana. I'd offer to help you out but I've been swamped with projects.

EDIT: Check out these guys - according to the Fluid Film website they are an applicator.

That was one of my questions. I have unlimited cars washes for 20 a month. Winter time I go through few times a week just for the undercarriage wash. Sounds like fluid film would wash away? wool wax holds up better? or is it a waste of time when running thru the wash. thanks

If you're looking to get it done, there's a company called DCP DuPage Corrosion Protection. The guy who runs it is a local 4Runner guy, and it sounds as though he runs the best deal in town (~$100-150). I haven't personally used him, but he gets great reviews from the folks in the Chicago 4Runner facebook group. He used to do fluidfilm coatings at Chitown 4x4 and ended up turning it into a business. I recommend getting added to the facebook group and using the search bar if you want more testimonials.

I normally put a tarp down on the driveway and either jack stand the truck or run the front or rear wheels up ramps.
