Clanging Noise Coming Front of Vehicle

I'm submitting this post in hopes of helping someone else. For the past several months I have had a clanging sound coming from the front of my 4Runner every time I hit a hard bump. I looked at everything under the hood and couldn't find the source of this rattle....until now. The source of the clanging was the shackle on the front. If you're having similar sounds, check the shackle. To fix the problem I added rubber washers.

Do people keep their shackles attached all the time, or only install them when trail wheeling? I’d be afraid some bozo would steal them around town.

Same fear. I guess I run the risk of a bozo stealing anything, including the entire vehicle.
Switched to soft shackles and happy thus far with the couple times I used them.

Could be your stock skid plates which are thin and resonate/vibrate on impact.
